in a difficult situation with our neighbours- what should we do?

Sounds as if you have moved into an area that you can afford, rather than an area you would like to afford. Try keeping your self to yourself, be polite say hello, how are you, but dont get into big buddies with them.

I took the liberty of reading one of the other threads you started and realise you are only renting your new home on a short term tenancy. Therefore it doesn't really matter if you don't get along with these neighbours as you are not tied and can move again 20 weeks.
