Hello eveybody,
Kiwi Our first contract fell through too. We are now on our second which has been extended (Sigh). Another week of nail biting and if it all goes through we move out on the 28th April. Thinking of you.
VickyA It sounds to me your Gran has early stages of dementia. My mum/gran/3 aunties had the same thing. Bit frightening for me so I hope they get a cure. It's a terrible disease, it really is and it will break your heart. She will need to be assessed as soon she won't be able to live alone.
I haven't had the best of days. I haven't seen my DGS as yet but hopefully I will see him tomorrow. Mowed the lawn late this arv. Exercised some anger off.Hope you all have a nice day and *Happy Birthday Michell*
P.S. Decided to give Hammy a go at golfing. His arms were getting sore from weightlifting.Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
Anyway (asides from my question above) I'm a newbie who posted on the 'open day' recently.
I'm still off uni at home due to a problem with my placement. This should be giving me lots of time to get some much needed studying done and means I am at home and able to be a bit more thorough with my cleaning ! But im afraid Im not with it at all and too preoccupied with problems to concentrate on very much.
Managing to keep up with washing/hoovering etc but any extra duties have not been attempted lol
Nice to read the thread though and hear about everyone elses life - its a bit like escapism (sp?)

She's said that she'll stay alive until after our wedding. So kind............. The doctor thinks that she's had mini stokes, each time losing another couple of brain cells. I hope that I haven't inherited that side of the family. My maternal grandmother died at the age of 84 of a heart attack. My maternal grandfather is still going strong in his own home at the age of 90 - still driving.
I think my mum (though she hasn't said it directly) hopes that grandma will go to better climes before they have to put her in a home - complicated financial situation.Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
Morning everyone.
Thanks for the birthday wishes. I've had a lovely morning so far. DH brought me a cup of tea, cards and presents in bed. I now own a slow cooker :j although DH felt bad for buying it as a birthday gift, i was over the moon. I got a lovely card from my 5yo nephew that was covered in hearts and kisses, and DH had got me a card saying To My Mummy - lots of love from pud. I was very choked up, but managed not to cry.
My kind family gave me money, so i may do some more clothes shopping when i visit the out laws in London over Easter weekend.
My plan is a chilled out day, maybe cross stitching or reading, and then DH is taking me to the local indian restaurant this evening. So an evening of stuffing my face with delightful company. It is absolutely ages since me and DH went out just the 2 of us - probably when we were on honeymoon. The car is in for its MOT today so i will have to pick it up,but other than that i am doing nothing.
Congrats to mr SOMO1 on the job.
Welcome back kiwichick - i bet you'll be relieved when the move is done. Hope you aren't too stressed.
Vicky - glad you can tick another couple of jobs off the never ending wedding list
PP - i'm really glad they didn't keep you in hospital. Have an easy day today to conserve your energy for tomorrow and the party. Although girls of that age are a bit too grown up to run around like boys would. I bet your DD is ever so excited now.
Have a nice day everyone.

I had originally thought the price would go down? As if people, mass media hysteria style, stop buying chicken then demand will decrease and therefore prices lower ????
Would anyone like to comment?
I'm having a lazy day today, I just feel like I'm not awake properly yet despite being up for a few hours and could quite happily go back to sleep! Had a busy baking day yesterday, made some quiches and a ham & egg pie with the leftovers from a ham joint done in the slow cooker on Wednesday. Also made a corned beef & tattie pie (leftover mash), chocolate cake, dropped scones and some reduced sugar ginger nuts for OH. I was going to try Black-Saturns baked omelettes too but ran out of eggs. Enjoyed myself baking but didn't like all the washing-up that I generated!Dum Spiro Spero0 -
Penny-Pincher!! wrote:Thinking of sending OH to Tescos to buy up 4 fresh chickens on BOGOF as I feel with this break out of bird flu in Scotland that chicken prices will rise all over the UK quickly.
There is one dead wild swan in Scotland, not a break out of bird flu and another 14 birds that have to be tested according to the BBC website.
The chickens that the likes of Tesco are selling on BOGOF are battery chicks which never see the light of day let alone meet up with a wild bird so I think it very unlikely that there will be a rise of prices, more likely a drop in price as people panic about the thought of bird flu.
The people to feel sorry for are the organic breeders who now have to bring all their chooks inside instead of allowing them to roam free.0 -

It will surprise you what the old folks will hang on for. My grandma died of cancer 5 years ago today, because she was determined to make it to my birthday. So it's always a bit of a sad day for me, but it shows what a bit of grit and determination will conquer.
I would hope it isn't dementia. That is an unfortunate illness for all involved.0 -

You may or may not want to know more about this but there is a condition which occours through the death of brain cells due to strokes, this is called vascular dementia. You can find more details of it here : http://www.alzheimers.org.uk/Facts_about_dementia/What_is_dementia/info_vascular.htm
Please forgive me if you do not want this information.

Morning all. Its chuckin it down up here in Glasgow, but nothing can shake my sunny mood! GOt up early this morning and set breadmaker so I will be coming home tonight to a ciabatta dough to make a HM pizza - serve with bottle of wine (chilled)!
This week has been a reall MSE success for me. After reading a thread on the Debt Free Wanabee board I was finally motivated enough to put all my old uni text books on Amazon last night and already have my first sale. SO if you're like me and keep meaning to get round to it but never do - go for it! I am going to get all my bits and pieces for my wedding oisted on Ebay over the weekend and anything I make is getting invested in buying bits and pieces for my garden.
I am also tucking in to a lovely big bar of organic green and blacks choclate with butterscotch pieces all free of charge thanks to a post a while ago on the freebies board. What a great site this is!
Have a lovely weekend all xMe debt free thanks to MSE :T0
