smokey - do your cats cause you this much bother? I think i might work on them being indoor cats again as the worry is too much for me. What with getting stuck in trees, stomach bugs and now this. Do you reckon Fred has lost 3 lives?
update - fred is still a bit shook up, he's had his x-ray and no fractures - thankfully. His problem with the blood supply is probably due to the swelling, but i have to take him back to the vets tomorrow morning. thankfully no op. The vet reckons he might have been attacked by another cat, so he needs a course of antibiotics to stop an abscess forming. I've got to go and pick him up, and give him some tlc. I am glad i took the day off work.

Glad to hear Fred is okay - I think lots of cuddles are in order and maybe a small treat of some prawns.
I have been quite lucky with my three girls - they are primarily house cats - on nice days they go out in the back garden and they dont stray from there (2 of them used to go and visit some gardens round about but you can always see them - now they dont wander at all) - the youngest one is the mischief maker - a couuple of weeks ago she had a bird for her dinner - we didnt discover the remains till bed time). I have only had them at the vets twice in the last few years - both of them was for Skin allergies - Smokey and Becky - Lucky seems healthy and nothing fazes her ( so far touch wood)

My normal consumption level is about 2 bottles a week, but over the summer I can get through 3 or 4 bottles per week, not on my own you understand, but because when we're queueing for various Proms the summer turns into one long "bring a bottle" picnic
Rzl - I'd love to have stash as well but I am not that well disciplined - I've got a 56 bottle wine rack in the kitchen which was once full a few years ago:owhen I open a bottle I've got to finish it. did you ever try the El Bombero Red wine from Sunday Times or Laithwaites - it was a cracking wine and it was 15% as well

And as for self-discipline - well, I didn't crack one open yesterday - but that might have had something to do with the fact that I opened the fridge and found my housemate's milk leaking all over everything. Called to him in the next room, and he said that if I moved my tonic water out of the fridge door he could put the milk upright. So I did move the tonic water - into a glass with some gin
SnowyOwl - you might call it financial discipline, I just think I'm a savings bore
Michelle - glad to hear that things are looking up for your little kitty :jOperation Get in Shape

I think i could do with that kind of tonic :rotfl: :rotfl:
fred's now home. I'm now £160 poorer. And he's got to go back again tomorrow to see what his leg is like when the swelling goes down. The poor thing is quite pittiful. He still can't walk, so he's dragged himself across the floor by his front legs. I'm really hoping that some of it is from the anaesthetic. Typical Fred though, as usual he is purring so loudly that the vet couldn't listen to his heart, so he sounds content enough.
It's total luck of the draw how much your pets cost you by the sounds of it.
Me and DH discussed pet insurance a few months ago and decided to just put £10 a month into savings for them. This jaunt has now wiped out the savings. I am still trying to decide whether to take some out, but it would depend on what sort of illnesses are covered.
I'm wondering if he has gone across the back fence to the pit, and a wild cat has had hold of him. The joys of 'parenthood'If i'm this bad with a cat, can you imagine how overprotective i'll be with a baby??
hopefully i can now enjoy the rest of the day.

Hi everyone!
Good news! Heard about an hour ago that we've been successful in our tender and I have a job for the next two years.....full time from August. It's all been a bit hairy as we were supposed to hear on Monday. At least I can plan a bit now and it'll ease the financial pressure a bit. OH is going to be working with me 2 mornings a week. That'll be unchartered waters!
It's been a successful few days really as I also had a full refund cheque [plus a bit more;) following my complaint letter to Odor Eaters. That was a tip someone kindly posted here so many thanks. I wouldn't have bothered pre redundancy.:T
I'm currently reading Smart Savers by Jane Furnival. IMO it's got a good section on bringing up children in an OS/thrifty fashion. Borrowed it from the library so Ms Furnival would be proud of me!!
OH is working Sat & Sun as he's got a big dollshouse show in mid May to prepare for but we're all going down to Hastings for the Jack in the Green festivities for May day [that'll bring the Druid out in me]. If you don't wear something green the people in the parade will get you with green face paint. I'm soooo excited as never been before and have been looking at the photos on the website.:j
Shall hit Tesco tonight and emerge with a very non OS bottle of vino- I think I deserve it!:rotfl:

Good afternoon to all!
Bargain Rzl - you did make me laugh - you'll be welcome in my house any time with an attitude like that!
cha97michelle - sorry to hear about your kitty, but look on the bright side, you'd probably find a baby easier, at least it wouldn't be climbing over your back fence, well not for a few years anyway!
Funkyfairy - hope that your foot feels better soon, when I broke my big toe I thought I was going to pass out every time I put any weight on it, trouble is, nobody can really see the injury, it's not like a bloody or gory injury that everyone has sympathy for, I found most people laughed! Oh, and good news about you son and his future school, I've got some friends who are going through appeals at the mo, and it is very stressful for them, so congrats to you!
Well not sure that today counts as old style at all! Went shopping this morning, but did find some bargains so it was a bit old style! Though my bargains were in Boots, so not strictly necessary, but little luxuries keep a smile on my face! You can have a look at the Boots thread for the details if you're interested in self tan stuff very cheap!
Grabbed a meal deal in Boots, so not at all OS, and have just seen the thread about £1.00 pizzas with choose your own toppings in Asda, so will be letting the children choose one each for their tea - they need the odd treat too!
dd3 made me laugh this morning as she saw a McD advert and couldn't understand why I said we couldn't eat there every day as it isn't healthy to eat like that, though it's nice for a treat! She just looked at me and said "well chips must be healthy cos you sometimes cook them for us!" I know that I usually make the children eat healthily, but I hadn't realised that she thought everything I provided was really healthy and good for her - bless!
dh and I will be having something OS for our tea though, just as well, else I'm probably on this thread under false pretences! Probably HM pasta in a sauce created from whatever came in today's veggie box - yummy! Oh, and as it's Friday and he's been away on business we shall also be sharing a glass or three of wine, or possible clearing a space in the fridge by putting the tonic into some gin (thanks Rzl!) - can't claim the wine is OS either, think it was from Mr T, though I have got some plum wine brewing in the garage, trouble is it's been brewing for several years as neither of us are brave enough to try it, though the hydrometer is suggesting that it's changed into a port strength drink!
Anyway, have a great day everyone, and wohoo it's bank hol on Monday - yeah! Just as well, as dh is running his half marathon on Sunday - keep your fingers crossed for him please! Bye!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
Good afternoon everyone :hello:
Thanks again for asking about my grandpa. My mum seems to think that he's a little better. Apparently when she turned up on Wednesday to see him, his sister (89 year old) was there stroking his hair  The only reason why he didn't tell her to go away was that he's far too weak. He's also told the nurses that he hasn't quite worked out the pecking order yet........... The nurses seem to like him (this is according to grandpa!) but my mum suspects that it's solely because he's still got all his marblesLittle do they know.....
OH and I are going up to Lincolnshire tonight as it's my dad's 60th birthday today  He was supposed to be having a party, but it's been postponed because of Grandpa. My mum has got some "easy" food in. I was appalled when she told me that she'd got some preprepared veg in! She does have the world on her shoulders at the moment though. We're hopefully going to pop in on Grandpa in Lincoln hospital. Their profits will be going through the roof with all this car parking from the VickyAs
We're thinking of ordering some wine from Tesco.com. We got their "Wine Club" thing through yesterday and if we buy 12 bottles of wine then we get £10 off. There are a couple of selections on "special offer" which will be fine for just drinking. Special occasions we tend to go to the nice wine merchant in the town.....................

Hello,
Why won't it get to 5 o'clock more quickly?! This afternoon just seems to be dragging. My boss has had to pop out so on my lonesome again (unlike bargain rzl & maybe some others here, I really get on well with my boss), but our MD is in today & is in the office next door so daren't put the radio on.
My cat (who now resides with said boss & his girlfriend - long story) had to go to vets last night also as when I went over on Tuesday I noticed she had a lot of teeth missing. The vet says she has got bad gum disease & there is one really bad tooth at the back that must come out. The thing is though that she is almost 15 years old so she has to go in for some blood & other tests first to see if she can cope with the general anaesthetic. Hopefully all will be well & she can have the op. She only really likes eating cat biscuits so isn't able to eat much at the moment. And she is very greedy so is no doubt feeling a bit fed up. I am waiting to have 2 wisdom teeth taken out so she has my sympathy!
my Body Balance class last night was good. I tried really hard with all the stretches & the pilates section of the class, so feel a little stiff today.
I'm looking forward to the long weekend. Planning a quick pop to the pub on way home from work to mmet some friends, then having a quiet night in with BF. Our friend who is a chef is bringing us some chilli home from work so will just have to heat it up & cook some rice.
Saturday: Going for a swim, doing the housework then off to a BBQ
Sunday: Going to church then Body Pump class in morning, maybe out for a walk or bike ride in the afternoon if weather good. Kareoke in evening.
Monday: Nice lie in, then a friend is coming over for the day.
Have a good weekend all,
Dora x0
