Got u Covered ltd

Has anyone had dealing with this insurance company? I am not happy with them at the the moment. They called up my father (even though we are on the calls restricted list) and have sold him an insurance policy for the Sky+ box. Then Sky rang to say his policy was coming up for renewal. My father thought the first company was Sky. After ringing Got u Covered I was told she had listened to a recording of the phone call and it wasn't a mis-sale and he had to pay for a years service. Not happy.

I think Watchdog had something about this company a while back. Cold calling people who thought they were from Sky.

You might want to repost this on the consumer forum.

I think that for insurance there is a cooling off period, or maybe distance selling?

Got to be some way out.

This is the old Sky Warrantary Scam discussed here.

Most of the different companies involved operate from the Sussex Area,as does Got U Covered.

  • My mother was recently cold called by this company. She paid out £75 over the phone. She already has cover for her Sky equipment with Sky. This is the second time in a month that such a company has got her to pay up. The problem is that she has dementia so cannot tell me exactly what was said over the phone but I am assuming they made her think they were from SKY she paid up. The first company refunded her money but Got U Covered have not even replied to my letter. Over the phone they told me it was a verbal contract but to cancel it she has to write to them, she has dementia so I have to do this. By the time I was aware of what had happened their 7 day 'cooling off' period had expired. It really makes my blood boil, expecially as this has happened twice in a month. Where did they get my mother's details from and how do they know she has SKY equipment? What do they say over the phone?

They may have no idea if she has Sky, and just try their luck. Is she registered with the TPS? If not, doing so should reduce the chances of her getting cold sales calls like this.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • I signed my parents up to TPS so this kind of thing wouldn't happen. So when they got the phone call they presumed it was from Sky because no other company shouold be calling them. When I spoke to Sky they said they do NOT give out any details of their customers so I guess these companies just take a chance. i am still fuming about it. I got in touch with Consumer Direct who helped and am now taking advice on what to do. I really am very, very angry still.

Same situation occured with my father. I believe this policy was mis-sold and it was insinuated that they were calling from sky. I have asked for a copy of the recording of the phone call but apparently they were not recording calls at this time. My father was cold called by this company.
  • If you get any challenge with Got-u-covered contact Consumer Direct. They are aware of this company. The more evidence they have though the better.
  • i have done business with this company, but they don't do direct debit and the only way you can change companies is to cancel your bank card. VERY inconvenient and you have no protection
