I just can't understand why Got U Covered hasn't been closed down and its directors subject to criminal prosecution and their ill gotten gains confiscated. There really ought to be enough evidence with the reports of myself and others to the police and trading standards.

If there aren't enough police and trading standards to do this now, what's it going to be like after 20% cuts? Society can't afford to allow these parasites to continue.

People need to start taking more personal responsibility I'm afraid, websites such as this are great to spread the word.

A few of these company's have started to contact me to sub out the repair work for anyone with these "insurance policy's", it seems up until now if some one made a claim the insurance company's would phone Sky pretending to be the customer to try and get a free repair or use there £65 call out service, too funny.

Sky are now wise to this and clamping down hard so they need us independents on board to carry out the fixes, it may no longer be economically viable.

And nine times out of ten, these companies pay the independants well under the going rate.

They wanted to pay £43 plus vat per call out, I wouldn't send even the trainee lads on a job for £43.

I will however continue to discuss £ with them if there is a hefty work load.

As a matter of interest what work would they have expected you to do for £43 + VAT??? Can't believe you could have provided a replacement Sky+ box for that??

Some of the independent's that done work for Sky over here in NI,got their stock from the main Sky contractors at the time,Finlay Communications.

But you're quite right, when you factor in tax, insurance, stock & other overheads, you're not left with much change.

Now I'm trying to set up my own one man outfit doing Sky work around my local area.(I did the Go-For-It course last year,it's the initial funding for the expensive stuff that's stumping me.I don't want to get a loan to pay for it,prefer to keep it in the green)
Sky charge £85 to fit a TV link.I can do it for £60+ depending on the size of the house & the number of links required.I can get the TV links for £8.00 at cost,so in all I'm looking at a stock outlay of about £15 per job.

No STBs are a different beast, there are numerous firms out there for that, I would guess they will keep a buffer store of recons and just get the ones collected fixed to restock the buffer.
Hell I might even start doing these policys myself.

    Cheers mate.

I normally get my stock from a place called 'Stax' which is only 6 miles away from me.

The first one's quite handy for me but the Londonderry one isn't so...

Also just found the link on the first one for something called 'Sky Buddy Scheme'.....Mmmmmmm
  • Put down another unhappy customer for 'Got U Covered Ltd'... My partner signed up with them the beginning of last year following a phonecall only 2 months after getting Sky in, told me a few weeks afterwards..I suspected it from the off (but past the dsr cooling off period) & checked them out on the internet.

I thought, oh well £65 gone and a lesson learned for my partner and it is only 1 year...or so we thought until the demand for this years payment came earlier this month, and a subsequent demand for it again a few days later (and the threat of a £27.50 administration charge if it was not paid within 10 days).

When we rang, we were informed the auto renewal claus was in our contract & also stated on the back of the letters demanding payment. Fair enough on the 2nd part, it is on the demand letters in small print (albeit with not enough notice to late to cancel - 10 working days notice in writing, apparently they are not obliged to remind us) but the actual contract was never received by us - the 1st contact we have had from the company since the original phonecall being the demand for the 2011/12 yearly payment. Also, the advisor I spoke to stated with every renewal you are tied into the full year (even if you opt to pay quarterly) unless you have Sky uninstalled & can provide proof from Sky.

Consumer direct at first advised to send a recorded delivery letter to 'Got U Covered' stating we had never had a writen contract so we could not be aware of the automatic renewal, wished to cancel and advise them they were possibly in breach of the Distance Selling Regulations act.

I rang Got U Covered to ask if, by their records, we ever received a contract..according to them, we had only a few days after the initial phonecall - it was not recorded delivery or one we had to sign & send back, just a copy for our information.

Rang consumer direct back again - the fact Got U Covered says they have sent a contract means it will end up in a 'our word against them' battle which the only route would be via the small claims court.

    Any advice?
