Hello all,
I have a confession. I used to work for Got U Covered Ltd. I left after 2 months once I finally realised what a scam it was.
When I was there they didn't record the calls so they could get away with anything. However, not long after I left they did start recording all of the calls.
The managers at the place do actually DIScourage sales people from pretending to be Sky. However, a sales person needs to only mention that they are from Got U Covered Ltd at the start of the call ONCE (it clearly states that in their guidelines, which I actually have somewhere), and from then on most, if not all, sales people twist their words (many try hard not to technically lie) to make it sound like they're from Sky.
Even though a lot of the sales people try very hard to act legally, another problem with the company is they use very pressurised selling. I remember numerous occasions where sales people would pressure elderly people to go and get their wallet from their car or upstairs etc., or using scare tactics if people weren't interested.
Somebody mentioned that there are a lot of these companies in Sussex. This is very true. Got U Covered Ltd is actually entirely unrelated to these other companies (technically), although many of the sales people move from company to company as they get kicked out etc.
I hope this helps shed some light on what goes on over there.0 -
This is very interesting. Have you let Trading Standards know this?0

Not everyone reads this. Could you also put it on the mirror blogs site also called got u covered?
Thanks0 -
The only company endorsed by Sky to sell equipment warranty is Domestic and General Insurance based in Brighton, East Sussex.
Any other company (of which there are many) trying to sell this cover are NOT endorsed by Sky so people should ask the name of the company before entering into any conversation.
All of these cold callers are told to avoid straight answers but if everyone tells them to stop talking and then asks "what is the name of the company you are calling from?" and they then say "Sky" any verbal agreement will be invalid and you will be able to get your money back. If they say any company other than Domestic and General tell them you already have cover and put the phone down. Don't worry about being rude as these people are the lowest of the low and are rude themselves by trying to hoodwink you.0 -
I'm afraid i've just had a run-in with them as well. Idiot husband signed up for the service last year, and then promptly forgot all about it. Even worse, he agreed to a continuous payment authority from his debit card, so they were planning to take £99 every year. His card number changed in January, so they couldnt take the payment, so the first i knew of this service was a snotty letter in March demanding more money.
I cancelled the policy immediately in writing, but they refused to accept this and demanded the full payment for the year. There is no way I am giving these people my new bank card details, I will offer to pay them by cheque, or even by bank transfer, but if they refuse and insist on CPA, they will have to take me to court!
I'm going to talk to the Citizens Advice as well, but am not holding out much hope of anything.0 -
Mr Keet
Can you please explain to me why a telephone number that is registered with TPS is still called by your company? Please do not tell me that it is the fault of TPS as I have spoken to them and their response was, "it is the responsibility of company who instigates the calls to ensure the data has been cleaned against TPS, not the data provider."
PS Received yet another call call from yet another satellite company stating our insurance had run out (it hasn't just as it hadn't when your company rang up), when this person was told the box was already insured (with Got u Covered Ltd) we were told you had gone into liquidation.
PPS I take it as the contract with Got u Covered Ltd runs out in 2010, if you are sent a letter at least a month beforehand with all relevant details on it you will cancel the contract?0 -

I was shocked this morning to receive a direct debit notification from 'Got U Covered Ltd' quoting my current account details for a £60 pa 'top class service' for my 'Satillite Tv system' - as I had never heard of the company let alone knowingly given them my bank details.
I then recalled a women purporting to be Sky phoned last Sunday (I think) lunchtime telling me that my monthly direct debit had been refused and had I had had a new bank card - which I had. She asked me for the new number so that she could put it through. I wanted to review the package, but she was quite pressing saying that as otherwise I would be subject to a £27 late payment charge and that in any case my current package had 'rolled over' and so I could not change it until next November. So in the end I gave her my bank account details. Sky has today confirmed they did not make the call.
** Has anyone else any experience of Got U Served or anyone else passing themselves off as being Sky TV?
Fortunately have managed to cancel the direct debit and done a report to the police, Sky, Consumer Direct and HSBC. I struggled to get HSBC's call centre to take the matter seriously and in the end rang off after waiting on hold for ages for a supervisor.0
