Im now in a quandry - i bought two items from someone in the mistaken belief they would combine postage - which i found they didnt - my mistake for not finding the item earlier and emailing them

but it arrived and out of the 5 quid i paid, they had spent a quid

now i want to leave feedback saying the items are fine but they dont combine postage

    Seabiscuit:
wasnt prepacked - they were very poor wrapped, and the wrapper had been torn but not enough to damage the contents

I do not think the seller has done anything wrong here. He did not offer to combine postage, this was just your mistaken belief.

If they stated the postage costs and you agreed to pay them I do not see what your problem is. Remember postage may include packaging, tape, marker pen, return addressee sticker, printer, paper for receipt, time travelling to the Post Office, travel costs to the Post office which may be several miles, queuing up anything upto 20 minutes. I don't know what Ebay allows to be included but this is the reality for me and may be the reality for many businesses.

You should ask for lower postage costs or discount before bidding if that is what you want.

If the contents were not damaged then I do not think you are justified in negative feedback about the packaging.

I often estimate postage costs, sometime I underestimate, sometimes I overestimate. Thats the rub of the green. If the postage costs were clearly stated and you left negative feedback you would definitely get negative feedback back from me.

I would put this down to experience. In future consider the postage costs as part of the overall cost and ask for lower postage costs before bidding.

As a buyer, not a seller, one of the things that will stop me bidding is when the response to a negative from a seller is abusive, or full of exclamation marks, particularly in cases where it's obvious that the buyer is an idiot (e.g. I brought the wrong size). A calm statement of the facts is (as Midmac says) is perfectly O.K. If I'm interested in an item I always check feedback, negative and positive, and the responses are as illuminating as the feedback score. I read samples of the positive comments because people sometimes leave a positive rating with an indication that the item was not as described or took 2 months to get there for example.

As an occasional seller, I make sure to leave feedback only after the buyer has first just to give me the best chance of protecting my 100% positive feedback record on there. I realise that by taking this action can be seen as an abuse of the feedback system, but since PayPal sides heavily with the buyer it is one of the few methods of protection I have left.

IMO its not abuse as feedback is optional not compulsory. Hubby now does exactly the same since getting burned a couple of times.

I am well aware about postage costs and exactly what they cover - i have been buying and selling for a number of years and I fully admitted it was my fault for not checking fully before hand but when you find someone selling a couple of items you want but they only have a short time left on them, there is little you can do

I was just trying to say that maybe other buyers would like to know in advance that the seller does not reduce postage for multiple buys and that their packaging leaves a lot to be desired

but if i leave suitable feedback stating this, the seller will give me a neg - I do not care about getting another neg - my feedback will stand it but i do care that that they are basically bullying their customers into leaving positives or they will be negged

had i seen similar feedback before bidding i would have reconsidered buying their items

    Everything’s alright tonight
  • I got my first neg and was about ready to savage the desk! I bought a new back wheel for my racing bike, paid the guy paypal.

He returned the payment and asked for a cheque. For 3 weeks I kept emailing him for an address and no reply. Finally get a reply and he negged me the same afternoon as a NPB.

When I read his feedback, his previous 3 transactions were from sellers and were all negative. Think I was just his retaliation to his situation. So I added to his misery and gave him his 4th!

Like alot of other sellers on here now, I don't leave feedback for buyers until they have left me mine. Your reputation is what you sell on and you can't let other idiots ruin it.... is it me or is it usually newbies that cause the trouble!

I got one the other week, Neg fb..."Excellent item but didn't fit" Finally someone must have explained things to her and she arranged for a mutual removal

I think I'm quite a placid person. But as I said, I had to leave my computer, to calm down. I would generally avoid confrontation, but not that day.

Feels better to know that I'm not the only one that lost the plot for a while.

Suppose its part and parcel of selling. Not going to let it spoil my eBaying. There are more good buyers than bad ones.

I think it's just plain bad luck when you get a MINDLESS DIM-WIT win one of your items.

    We can all sympathise.

Heres my tips for getting your own back!:

I recently bought an item from a seller who listed the item as new with tags, aged 12-13 and in new condition. WRONG - the item was old, aged 10-11 and with pen marks. Tried to sort it out via the email. She eventually agreed to paying some money back but this never happened! I then reported her and she told a string of lies - I kept all the emails from her and posted them to Ebay. SO: I contacted every member who had given her bad feedback or vice versa and asked them to complain to ebay. Some of them had received abusive emails from her. She's now been struck off ebay! :T

It only takes 1 idiot though to spoil it all.

This is true. Some people are just plain stupid.

I sold an item one Wednesday at approx. 8pm. The boneheaded keyboard warrior who used Buy It Now started emailing me the next morning, asking where his item was and how he was going to "report me to the police" :rotfl: if he didn't get it within the next 24 hours. What he didn't realise is that most Post Offices close before 6pm. Not only that... but the guy hadn't even PAID yet.

I put him straight, and he left negative feedback later that same day, along the lines of, "your quik 2 take my money but your slow to delever", which led me to point out that
    1. Nobody "takes" your money on Ebay. Can you see that big scary guy holding a knife to your throat whilst you log into Paypal? Neither can I. You CHOOSE to give your money away.
    2. He hadn't even paid yet.

... and then I filed a unpaid item dispute. How the excuses came! We went through everything, from how he couldn't pay because his mother had just died, to how he is disabled and living on benefits, to how he had already paid, to how he is feeling "harassed" by an unpaid item dispute and is going to call his (fictional) solicitor, to how his sons would react if they knew he was being "harassed" (Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis lookalikes, according to him - I assured him that my pants were dripping), to how his dog had run away... all the cliched old excuses that any normal person would see straight through.

The end result was that I closed the dispute and handed out the UPI strike. Ebay refused to remove his stupid feedback, though.

As I said, some people are just plain stupid. Once you realise that the dimwits are there for the entertainment of more intelligent folk, they're a lot easier to deal with. It's so amusing to watch someone work themself into a frustrated little ball of anger... :rotfl:

Ive said before and still believe, some peeps are too stupid for ebay and should not be let loose with the feedback facility.
The woman probably meant it as a joke and did not realise the implications of what she was doing. After all if the jeans were too small, that is a negative to her, not your fault but she didnt say it was.
Even if they were a perfect fit but she broke her nail putting them on you would still have got your neg She is probably a really nice lady but like I said Too stupid for ebay.
