i always ask mine for proof of posting and they always write house number and postcode for me i have never had a poblem and i use 3 different post office i would maybe think about talking to the owner or manager, post offices are lucky to be around and are always asking us to use our local post office and when you do you get abuse, thats wrong.
Thank you so much to everyone who posts :j :T :T :j
  • I would have said that you are only entitled to the receipt once you have paid for the service. When did you pay once all the items had been weighed and the cost of postage calculated?

That would then mean you would have to pay for each item individually.

However, with customer service like that they are certainly doing their bit to shorten the queues.

to save time each parcel is not paid for one at a time, but a receipt does get generated one at a time as each parcel is weighed and postage is calculated, then all the parcels are totalled at the end and the payment is made all together. This is what has always happens, i would agree if i was paying and aksing for each one as i went along this would take forever. With any other PO i have been passed the receipt as they get printed and the payment is made at the end.. this is very efficient and does not take any extra work off the cashier.. unless it is tooo much effort to pass me the receipt as it was for the lady in question...
  • I hate the one in the town centre, you usually queue for ages! (though it is a skive when the boss asks you to go for him). My local one is a little better, but one of the sour faced old biddys (seems to be run by OAPs) commented that one of my packages was torn a little, then tossed it into the mail sack. Turned out that the item (book) I'd sent almost didn't get there cos she didn't have the common sense to give me a bit of tape to repair it.

Not read the whole thread, ebay have helped prop up the post office for years and if I was to get grief I would remind them that they would probably be closed if it wasn't for the web.
I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

Happily my local PO is fab. Do your parcels one at a time. Get one done, get your receipt and pay for it, then the second etc.. if the cow behind the counter complains, say well, you're a cow so I'm being a cow.
YOU are the customer, remember that, and if they need reminding, remind them!

We send a lot of parcels and the PO we use was sold. The new owner didn't like ebayers much, we were obviously too much hassle.
Service improved dramatically after a 'casual' remark to one of the more friendly cashiers, who just happened to have her boss looking over her shoulder.
Something about being fed up, that I had to go home and finish the end of year accounts, and "do you realise I spent over £x,000 in here last year"

I write out my own proof of postage for everything I send via my post office (usually 50 items / week). All they have to do is tick it off and stamp the proof, it has stopped all the huffing and tuts from people behind me in the queue and the post mistress giving me filthy looks.
My new problem is that I bought loads of large letter stamps from them before the prices went up, they now begrudge me using them because all I want is my proof of postage signed, having already stamped the envelope.
As already mentioned, they obviously don't appreciate that online selling is keeping them afloat!

I really feel sorry for you all who have to use horrible post offices. :o

My PO is brilliant - I moved house about 4yrs ago and was really worried as I had a wonderful local PO then but this one is the same. I read threads like this and feel so lucky.
  • my PO is really good and is always trying to do the cheapest option for me to send things etc. The other one i go to however makes you feel like you are doing something wrong and if you have more than a few parcels they give the tuts, hums and 'oh look at the queue now' no need for horrible service, just remind them politley who pays their wages!
  • Just been charged large letter rate when sending a letter with dims under 240*165*5mm. Okay, 22p but still imagine the cashier doing this to 'every' customer per day, that amounts to lots!

The other annoying thing was he even had the cheek to ask me to send 'Special' for some parcels when I wanted 1st class recorded! (asked each time a parcel was put on scales)...
