    WITHIN (my capitals) 28 days

I agree about the WITHIN bit.
But it doesn't say whether they are working days or not.

    What's the rush?

    I don't understand the impatience.
Surely no-one is dependent on this money to eat?

    Just be a little patient.
Otherwise you end up phoning up every 5 minutes.

Barclays refused to let me open this account despite me having a barclaycard with £6700 credit limit and being a long time Woolwich customer and former mortgage holder. I applied in time and of course know I've been fobbed-off, cheeky sods. I complained, however, and after they'd mixed my complaint up with someone elses (typical barclays incompetence) I got a £15 goodwill cheque. better than nothing, I guess, but i'm still not happy about being refused a bank account!
  • To fellow £100 chasers, just a word of warning I had to fight tooth and nail to get my £100.

They tried to say the account was not open in time and I knew it was.

I called the 0500 number and was given a complaint reference and told a letter would be sent in the post outlining worst case scenario for the complaint to be dealt with.

I insisted that it was not my problem that they could not get their act together and fulfill their own terms and conditions.

I then told them that I would go into my local branch and make it very apparent to their personal banking team that I was unhappy with the apparent lack of service.

They informed me that the local branch would do nothing and would only be told what I have already been told.

Needless to say I went into the local branch and told the personal banker to tell the online team that I would be in the branch every day restressing that they barclays had no customer service and I would be very vocal in my apporach.

Well that seemed to work a day later and the £100 has been credited to my account.

The key here is persistence and being very vocal but you also need to be organised who you spoke to and when.

After weeks of messing about by Barclays I managed to get the first £1000 deposited in March after being promised by Barclays that I qualified. I will be paying the next payment in a few days and look forward to my bonus....thanks Martin....yet another good tip!

Got the £100 added to my account on Monday of this week. I'll bet they'll think twice about making such an offer again!!

Thanks Martin, must go and close the account now!!

One-up-manship is sometimes a really good feeling!! :p

My understanding of the English language is that 28 days means just that. If Barclays meant working days then they should have written that.

    No rush.

The banks like to quote their terms and conditions if someone is in breach. As far as I'm concerned when I opened the account it was based on Barclays T & C's at the time and a contract was entered into based on them. They are in breach of those T & C. They obviously don't like it when they have been "screwed" as on this occasion and the snowed under claim really doesn't hold water. They're just stalling in my opinion.

Payments of £100 issued so far have been very random and there is no pattern to it. Just wait til the 28 days has passed and then badger the hell out of them til they pay up.

I applied 13th Jan, account opened 24th Jan, first £1k deposit 6th Feb, 2nd £1K deposit 9th March, still waiting........................................................

My fingers are itching to dial c/s to listen to the response.......72 hours to go !!!

I'm very pleased to say that I've now lost the itchiness in my finger as I now have my £100 :j 27 days from the 2nd deposit !! Please be patient !!

So for me it has been 100% hassle FREE. Not one single problem !! On that basis I may now open the regular saver account as it's the only one paying 10% gross AER that im eligable for.

I agree with you and if they are in breach we should go after them.
However there seem to be some people who cannot wait and all that is doing is clogging up the switchboard and slowing things down for everyone concerned.

I won't be chasing them until 28 days have passed.
  • My 2 monthly payments were made 9 Feb and 8 March. No £100 by today......called in at Barclays Branch.

"Oh the first payment doesn't count, that was in the month the account was opened. Make one more poayment and see if the £100 appears next month!"

Is this a game of chance - why can they not check facts and be certain?
  • £100 arrived in my account today. Absolutely zero problems. The young lady who completed my application at the local branch was totally delightful, no pressure to open other accounts or insure my car/house or anything. Its also been very easy to manipulate my money on line.

In fact its one of the easiest £100 that I've ever earned. I only wish I was quick enough to open accounts in my wife's and the two dogs' names.

    Keep 'em coming Martin.
