Thanks for all the advice on here guys - I know it was aimed at others but I think some of it may help me refocus. Been really busy at work this week and that combined with the hot weather means I have done no exercise at all. I really need to get a grip of this before I slip back into my old ways. I've also got to learn to be less self conscious when out running as I can talk myself out of exercising if I think people will notice me (a hang over from being bigger I think).

Missy do you wear specific trail running shoes for your running? If so where do you get them from?

today we went to Aldi and bought grapes, nectarines, bananas, vine toms, peppers all for 49 p bargain, the kids eat grapes as if someone has told them the vines are closing

I got 4 boxes of the grapes and some bananas yesterday. We already had loads of peppers in so didnt need them. I may go back in a few days if that offer is still on, their super six offers are great and as I go past it on my way back from asda I always check the offer online and make sure I wait to buy that fruit/veg there! Oh and OH eats grapes like your kids...he takes a box out of the fridge and eats it all in one go. Thats the thing with having fruit in he eats big lots in one go so its expensive, but better than him eating crisps etc (which he still does lol).

Ok all your posts have made me finally analyse my eating habits and how I got where I am now. BB it was your post got me thinking about the link to my medication. I was never skinny from about the age of 5 but nor was I "big". However it was my first op age 11 that weight first went on as I was taking so many pills that I had to eat with that I couldnt have full meals or always fruit so I would have a couple of biscuits, or toast and jam etc and being on crutches and eating like that for 2 years the weight piled on. Then I couldnt do any exercise because of various ops up to the agee of 16 which didnt help (I continued horse riding though out of sheer determination for years before eventually giving in and giving up). Then I was a fat teenager so I wouldnt eat for days and would only pick at food for weeks and drop weight quickly before bingeing and being sick and then gaining again etc etc. Then age 16 I said enough and stopped all of that and my weight crept up from ok to overweight and then when I moved away to uni and was learning to cook and ordering takeaways and doing my own shopping with all those offers on snacks etc well then i got to my heaviest weight. I finally started to shift some then got a new wave of health news and medications but somehow didnt put that weight back on despite giving up the diet, and then i found this thread!

God mammoth post or what! On this note I will confess to having a curry tonight! OH didnt fancy what I'd planned and after mucking about on the beach with the dog he decided he would buy us a curry. On the plus side I didnt eat a lot so he has plenty left for his dinner tomorrow night and I can have light cous cous to make up for some of it.

What fab advice and ideas being offered here today.

I've spent today outside, as it was such a lovely day, and I want to make the most of this wonderful summer we're having. I did the weeding in the garden, which has been overrun by some awful kind of bindweed, that has the sneakiest roots imaginable... they just go on forever, but are really think, so snap off in the ground. Then I fetched some wood and mesh and constructed a large rabbit & guinea pig run for the lawn, and the rabbit and g.pig are now very happy to have so much room to scamper around in. They have a hutch/run combi, but it's not very large, and this one is nice and big.

We were childfree for hours on end today. The eldest 2 have gone to a rock gig thing, the youngest got invited out to a friend's house, and the other one is still in Norfolk on his school trip. The meat I got out the freezer didn't defrost in time for tea, so we ended up with chinese again... duck & pancakes! We also got sweet n sour chicken and rice, but didn't eat it, and have put it in the fridge for tomorrow. It was a nice treat to have, and it felt even more special because it was just the 2 of us there for dinner.

Will have to work extra hard next week to undo any damage there, but as it was a treat, and not something we always have, I won't feel bad about it.
One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

Be nice to your children, they'll choose your care home

Not yet Vixstar! When I was gait analysed last year it was before I fell in love with running the trails, so I just have ordinary running shoes. They have been great but I could really do with something with more grip, sturdier, and better water/mud resistance.

I plan to buy new insoles for the current pair and continue to use them for some conditions, and buy myself some sparkly new proper trail shoes in September all ready for another winter :D When I'm ready to buy, I'll be starting with another visit to a specialist running shop, if that's any help :)

Are you thinking of making a purchase? ;)

Ok is this coincidence that all this good advice is coming out the weekend I told u all i intended to be naughty? :rotfl:On a guilt trip now. Was good all day saving myself for my late lunch/early dinner. Then had to have the steak when we went out. Resisted the fererro rocher until this evening and i've been a total pig on them tonight. Gonna need to shoot my guests for bringing them, it's one of the few chocolates i can't resist!!!Was all worth it, have had a lovely Friday and Saturday, back to day one tomorrow. Remind me i said it was all worth it when I weigh in tomorrow/monday :rotfl:

MAZZA - I cant resist fererro rocher or guiliian shells. I was given a box a few months ago and actually gave them away as a gift because otherwise I would have eaten them all in one go! I bought myself a bar of choc as a compromise though. Have just had some grapes so am a happy bunny!

the problem I have is that I don't love cooking that much so I find it quite an effort to plan and make lovely things each day.

I'm not a keen cook most of the time - I only make things that take very little effort. But as I think I now prefer simpler food - grilled/griddled/stir fried etc doesn't take long. But the ingredients might be a small amount of steak rather than a larger amount of mince.

ps I'm really intrigued to know what OU course you were doing now Granny?!

I did my whole degree with the OU. The fish training was a course called biology, brain and behaviour. The 400 woodlice (I was studying their poo) was part of an ecology course and the fruit flies that colonised the airing cupboard  were a genetics course. Oh the fun I had ....

Ooh granny - you and my OH have soooo much in common :D. I've put my foot down at spiders deliberately brought into the house though:eek:

dmv -thanks for sharing your story. It all makes sense doesn't it, as to how you got where you are. I think it helps to know your (one's) past and make the connections. We can't change the past, but by understandng how it set up patterns of behaviour empowers us to change, even if one tiny step at a time so we are no longer captives to our past but forgeing a new chapter.
I worked on a voluntary scheme for a year back when I was 20 years ago and we often weren't fed enough and only those who finished their meals quickly had a chance at seconds and I definitely learnt to eat way too quickly on that year for fear I would get weak with hunger before the next chance of food, and I find it very difficult even now to slow down unless I consciously think to do so.

Mazz - yup, we secretly PM'ed each other to catch you out: that'll learn ya:rotfl:
Missy; I'd be quite interested to have a run down of an average 6 small meals a day that you do.

Vixstar - the great thing about sharing our stories/experiences is that someone always inexpectedly benfits and picks up on something that connects for them. As for running shoes - I got my traineers from a specialist running shop to and the gait assessment is well worth it... I I don't run! But the trainers make walking much more comfortbale for me and help me keep going for longer.

Sary - sounds a lovely chilled day for 2. As for enjoying this summer: I've been desparate for new clothes and finally treated myself to 2 new dresses last week and have been loving just been able to slip them on and feel nice and not have to think any more about it. They weren't cheap but make me feel I look nice so more than worth it.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
