  • Another early start for me tomorrow so I'm weighing in today.

Happy to report a -3LB LOSS this week, :j actually this 2 weeks as I didn't WI last week. Still it's all heading in the right direction!! That's a total of 9lb lost in 6 weeks on the Harcombe Diet. I never thought I'd miss white bread so much...but the results are worth it. Not the massive & dramatic loss that other people on the diet have reported (perhaps thats the only ones that they talk about ) but a steady, healthy and hopefully sustainable loss. And I've lost 2 inches off my waist!! yay!! My jeans are starting to feel a bit loose at last!!

I've been a bit light on exercise this week but I'm finding that having my main meal at lunchtime is helping, most of my evenings are spent running aroud after the kids so I dont often get the chance to sit down to a meal. It's an old wives tale but it makes sense that if you get the chance to burn off the calories consumed after a meal then you will see the benefits. I've even managed to indulge in some treats (peanut butter sarnie, choccies (+70% cocao of course), red wine - not all at once!), but the after effects of the McD last week have put me off going too mad.

Got up at the crack of dawn today with the intention of going for an early swim. Got to the sports centre only to find the place in darkness, doors locked and about 30 people standing around outside, including staff members - it's supposed to open 6am and I got there about 6.15. I sat in the car listening to the rain for about 5 mins then gave up. But I had all the right intentions - honest!! Used the extra time in the morning to prepare a beef bourgignon for the slow cooker, will be ready and waiting to be eaten when I get home tonight!

Did anyone see the prgramme on TV last night about breakfast cereals? My OH watched it (I was out with DD as usual) and is now going through our cupboards scrutinising all the cereal packets. I'll watch it on catch up later but suffice so say OH was horrified. We'll be buying own brand from now on and cutting out the coco-pops... much to DS' dismay...

Intrigued Hezza, what was in them? Well done on the WL!:T

Welcome Amanda, so sorry to hear what a tough time you're having with the meds. Hopefully KPC's advice may help. Stick around for lots of moral support.

Nyk, think of the money you'll save over a year! ;)

Well, another confession (I'm making a few of these today) - I've joined another WL group  Well not really as I was already on Dinah's thread and have just added my name to the list on there. Figured I'll take whatever help I can get :D Definitely in size 14s now; would love to be a 12 for the big day but will go with whatever size makes me feel a goddess (better Granny? :p)

ps did I weigh already this week? Feels like it's time to do it again

It was Dispatches on Channel 4 last night "What's in Your Breakfast?" It showed (among other things) that so-called healthy breakfasts targeted at children are actually loaded with sugar and salt - here's the blurb from the 4OD website:

It is the most important meal of the day, but all too often, breakfast in the UK is far from healthy.
In this edition of Dispatches, reporter Jane Moore reveals how nutritious the nation's breakfasts really are and the marketing techniques employed by this lucrative industry. Manufacturers are using health claims to sell their breakfast cereals, drinks and bars.
Dispatches investigates the evidence provided to support these claims and asks if some of the healthy-sounding cereals and pro-biotic yoghurts are all they are cracked up to be.
Moore uncovers what is actually in your breakfast food. Do you really know just how much sugar and salt are in children's cereals, particularly those marketed as 'healthy'?
Moore finds that the unwillingness of retailers and manufacturers to adopt the traffic light systems recommended by food standards authorities is confusing things further. Even if you want to eat the right thing, it is not always easy to tell what that is.
She also tests the regulators' rules on 'healthy' branding by baking a cake that could still make many of the health claims made by cereals.
Moore examines the recent shifts in cereal marketing which enable manufacturers to stay ahead of the regulators. With advertising of sugary children's foods banned during kids TV programming, Moore discovers that their marketing has moved to prime-time TV and the internet.

  • amanda - that is such a tough situation. I have been on meds in the past that make me very hungry and put on loads of weight. The differnt ones I am on now do it a bit but nothing like those. I found sw wasthe answer for me and kpc has given some great ideas. I feel helpless to suggest anything else but couldn't read and run. Meds/illness make weight loss very difficult at times and there are a number of us here who are or have been in the same boat, so don't feel alone.
vixstar - well don on your fabulous time for your run by the way:T:T.
Nyk - are you finding yourself as satidfied bysmaller portions? (i.e. was eager larger ones just habbit rather than need?) It is great to see you finally suceeding:T.
Thanks for all the support re by sizing up clothes wise. I definitely look slimmer.:j
The silverside turned out well sary - dryer than roast beef but still tender: 6 hrs on low in the slow cooker covered in hot water. We are having cold left overs tongiht with mash & baked beans.
Yes, logging on here does keep me accountable. Although I am not fully focussed on WL at the mo, it still helps me take better food choice decisions that are helping me maintain my weight.

    LOL at "bails you twerp":D

Well done hezza. RVK, Victory & rosie - as granny says, you have done very well in the last month:T.

Hezza - saw a prog like that last year. I tend to have a protein based breakfast now. Cereals never kept me full for long anyway. Cereals for breakfast became the fashion after the war I think, with major ad campaigns. But in europe, they don't have them much I understand, nor in my parents day. So many of them seem to be sugar based:confused:
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
  • cereal is one i thing i REALLY miss on sw. I love all the really bad ones. There are some you can have on sw, but the portion size that you are allowed is so miniscule it's not worth bothering with so i stick with weetabix mostly. I am dreadful at portion control - pretty much every night I cook a meal for 4 which OH and i eat between us. The only way i've found that we'll cut back is to plate or tub up a portion before i serve that goes in the freezer/fridge for another day. We'll always empty the pan, but if there's already some missing we don't really notice. On an oriental trip at hte mo, got some recipes from a wagamama cookbook that I'm working through, just need to allow syns for hte sesame oil really.
  • i have been on medication for years now fluoxetine for depression cause of my sons learning problems. i got worse, and now i am on mirtazipine, and they are known for weight gain, i told the dr i am also very depressed cause i have gained 2 stone in 6 months, but she still goves me the meds.
i have been on them 2 weeks now and have been constantly hungry, i have tried slimming world, as i can eat alot, but i am that tired, and sleep alot because of my meds that i dont have the anergy for cooking from scratch all the time.

in 2 weeks i have gained so so much weight, an hour after i eat i am that shaky and faint feeling, i need more food, more sugar, like a diabetic but the tets show i am not diabetic, or anything.

what do i do? i am so upset and so hungry, eating fruit and veg does nothing. i dont live in crappy foods but i eat loads and loads.
when googling my meds everyone has experienced the same as me.

I had similar problems on them (I put on 2 stones in 2 months!!!!). It may be useful to change tablets (I was terrible on prozac/fluoxetine) but i did find sertraline really good.
I'm not sure if it helps but the weight does fall off again once you stop taking them.

    Hey all,

Hello Amanda, sorry to hear about your struggles with meds/weight gain. It can be an all too common side effect unfortunately. Your depression has to take priority over weight, although I am sure gaining weight makes you fed up too. I'd definitely speak to your GP to see if there is another alternative available for you to try. Otherwise, SW does sound like your dieting friend, and maybe if you can prepare large batches of foods readily available to snack on, it may help you.

Bails, at a size 14 I think you should already be gorgeous. You've had a steady loss in recent months, and all that walking through mountainous regions must have made you fitter. Also, why aren't we connected on facebook already? I'm in Granny, BB & Vix's friends list if you want to find me. As for being the best day of your life, to be honest, that moment when you are stood face to face, saying your vows from the heart, nothing and no one else seems to matter. It is the most wonderful moment, and believe me, the last thing you'll be thinking of is your frock or the cake. BTW, no cake?!! You must be soft in the head as well as a twerp! lol

A good day today for me.
    B - porridge
    L - banana & bread
    D - h/m beef stew

lots of cups of tea to keep full inbetween. Good losses coming in guys. Well done.
One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

Be nice to your children, they'll choose your care home
