I think eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly is probably a better way of losing weight though there does seem to be a lot of articles from 2004 that adding a grapefruit to a healthy eating plan may do some extra good.

welcome smithy, myxbox and welcome back vanya:T. Can't think of anything worse than grapefruit:rotfl: Needs loads of sugar to make it palatible I would have thought, but if you love it without - it is fruit which is good.
I think smaller portions but healthy food that you love is probably better for sustainable weight loss. Don't feel you have to eat dull food you don't like very much to lose weight. I think it really important to find food, new meals/menus that you really can look forward to and enjoy but doesn't pile on the pounds: that will take a little time to work out but worth the effort.

Victory - so glad it went well. It is great to hear you part of the working world again:T. I guess getting a referal for your DS will me any issues will get a more thorough exploration.
Granny - you still can still hold divine status:A. Thanks fred for volunteering to do the chart.

    Today has been:

brkfast of quorn burger and poached egg.
lunch 113g green lentils, left over mashed lemony cannelli beand, mint jelly and 28g of feta and anm apple
snack - asda smart price raisons (too many)
    snack: raw sweet potato
dinner: roast butternut squash, pepper, carrot, parsnip, roast chicken pieces cut from whole chicken.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

How the ruddy hell do people work full time? I must admit i have been doing long days, like 7am - 5:30 on monday but i feel like i have lived in debenhams! Its been full of eating ready meals, and saying morning matt, and good night matt in the same day. Life just hit a new level of, is this what my working life will be like for the next eternity untill i reach 60 whatever. Bit depressing really, theres been no pub involved...no shopping... no watching jeremy kyle and bargain hunt.

Thanks for the exercise advice re working a whole week but jeez, 40 odd hours a week of work is exercise in itself, and i do walk to and from work aswell.

Congratulations Victory on the job, that is great news!! Hope it went well today :)

    hello new people!

It helps if you can find a job you love vix, but yes it is a huge adjustment. To avoid over dependence on ready meals, this is were meal planning helps so that when you come home really tired all the planning or prep is possibly done already or that is when you just grab the takeaway or whatever. Well done though on nearly completing your first week:T.
Also, budgetting is good because then you can see where your now really hard earned cash gets spent so you can then choose to buy only what really matter to you rather than inadvertantly frittering it on this and that. It's great to have something to show for your efforts. Beware compensating for all this working by over spending on 'stuff'.
I work part-time, but my compromise to make ends meet is to always have lodgers.

PS do I sound like a really sensible but dull old person :rotfl:

Welcome Nyk, myxbox and smithy, and welcome back Vanya.

myxbox - i think there are often ideas that eating a certain food can help promote faster weightloss. Years back when I was attending Weight Watchers, one of the other members swore by the idea that you ate rhubarb with every meal, and that it had some magical effect at cancelling out calories, or raising the metabolic rate. It probably just gave her extra trips to the loo! Years back there was a thing known as 'The Grapefruit Diet', which was around in the 1970's I think, and there was also a 'Banana Diet', and 'The Cabbage Soup Diet', and many more. They're all a bit faddy, and the advice that any dietician or nutritionist would give you is to eat a healthy diet high in fruit & veg, lean protein and complex carbs. Processed foods are unhealthy, as well as anything over refined or high in fat or sugar. It's actually just common sense. Think back to how people used to eat/cook years ago before supermarkets invented the ready meal, and before people began to eat takeaways and regular meals out/fast food.

Victory - I'm glad your first day at work went well. Let's hope they are able to increase your hours in the months ahead. Here's also hoping the referral proves more productive for your son.

Well, it's been a busy old day here. I spent aboout 5 hours baking/assembling my OH's birthday cake. I hadn't anticipated it was going to take so long to do. I hope he likes it anyway.

    Food today:

    B - shredded wheat
    L - ham salad
snack - banana dipped in natural yogurt
D - mackrel, baked potato & sprinkle of cheese
One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

Be nice to your children, they'll choose your care home
