Well done on the bargains Victory, although I don't think I could drag myself out of bed at 6.30 on a Sunday morning.

BB I hope your mum's talk goes well tomorrow. You sound to be busy at home again. How are the mosaics coming along, especially with your birthday spends additions?

I feel rather satisfied at my industrious efforts today. I got the washing done and dried lovely in the sunshine. I did a roast beef dinner, and even baked a homemade lemon cake. I found more seed heads were on some petunia plants in my hanging baskets, so harvested those and got the seeds all put into a pot ready to try growing the seedlings early next year. I've never done all this before, so it's going to be a complete new challenge for me. Usually I've bought packets of seeds, or the plants from the garden centre, but it can be so expensive. I've cut back the lavender bush, and kept all the lavender stems, and put them into bunches of like-sized stems. I'm going to look into how to make these into little lavender pillows to put into drawers/wardrobes, etc., for little Christmas gifts, and to give to my friend to sell at a table top sale in aid of a charity later this year. I am on the lookout for some cute print fabric, sort of liberty or Kath Kidston prints I reckon.

Victory, I grew my tomato plants from seeds, and have been amazed at the success of them. They looked a bit overgrown and mad in the veg plot, but that seems to have really done the trick I reckon, allowing them to just grow. I cut them back in July to stop them getting too big. I have heard that it was a bad year for cucumbers this year, and I forgot to plant my seeds, so just as well. My dad always said I had green fingers, but it's more from luck than anything else. I believe in giving everything a chance to grow, and then another chance, just in case! I have to say that the small conifer I planted earlier this year, that turned from lush green to rusty brown was a definite 'goner' and I dug it up and put it in the compost bin today.

Off to shower and bed now.

Well, interview this morning was up at 6.30am shower, hair, make up, chose black trousers, white blouse and red cardi, casual but very smart sor of thing, walking up there I thought I was going to pass out through fear:rotfl::rotfl:walked in, managed to wipe the sweat off me before I went in:rotfl: there is no interview, the hours which were three mornings a week have now been cut to one if that the lady said who I befriended but she did say I looked very smart:rolleyes: so there all that hype and nada:D

Eldest is 16 today, he got his new liverpool top, tin of quality street, a choc fudge cake with 16 candles on, some money and we are all going to the harvester for dinner so he is happy, the house is fully decorated, told him in a long chat that he is not getting a 50cc bike, end of story really, I say what goes and the bike is a no no as it is joining the Army so he has just had to agree with me, what he does when he is 18 that is different but for now under my room...;)

  • victory, I quite agree with you. Whilst he is under your roof he should be following your rules and it sounds as though he accepts that. Mine too have to follow what I say while they live at home or visit from uni!

I had a bad weekend losing weight. I drank wine last night and had apple crumble with my dinner . Going to try to be really good this week!

Sorry to hear that the hours have been cut to one morning.

  • Victory - that's a real shame about the hours being cut. Now they know you'd be interested, have struck up a friendly rapport with the staff, and they have seen how smart you look, if the hours ever get increased I think they'd have you like a shot. If nothing else, I find the preparation for an interview is a really good exercise in focussing the mind, and beginning to think about your life outside of the home. I was very deflated after my last unsuccessful interview, but on reflection the timing wasn't right for the family, and I know that, for now, despite money being really, really tight right now, my resources are best placed here, and they're being appreciated.
There will be other opportunities, and the right one for you will come along.
As for the moped, I think you were right to right to speak honestly to your eldest, and to be firm. My eldest has a moped, but has never used it. His younger brother turns 16 in November, and he was going to be getting on the road, and using his brother's bike, but we've now had to put that off as a sanction, because I've found out that he's been smoking - again! I don't understand that, not in this day and age, when there is so much information available to teens to warn them of the dangers. We're a very anti-smoking family, so it's a big disappointment.

Poohbear - we all have times when the diet goes a bit off piste, but so long as you get back on track again it's ok.

My sisters lad now 20 but then 15/16 started smoking in secret, his dad went to london for his test results to be told he had lung cancer(in remission now) even that news did not put him off starting/continuing, unbelievable:rolleyes:

Thanks, I know I have put my 'hire me I am brill' in plan and they will remember me, quite pleased with how far it went:D

I lived in Spain all through my youth and I was the first on the block to have a moped at the age of 14 which was perfectly legal then, guess I won't be telling him that;)

I am somewhat fed up with being 'bullied' by the kids, the eldest demanding and the youngest his temper tantrum, the stress has to stop and so we had a family meeting and told eldest no and youngest you can have a voice but not that loud:rotfl::rotfl:

We went to see 'the firm' last night at the cinema,(80's football, the music was fab) I was laughing out loud cringing in one scene where he takes his parents shopping for a new tracksuit, he says to his dad he wants that one after telling him what a bargain it is, his dad sees the price says no and his mum goes off and finds another one, much cheaper and hideous convincing him he would look fab in that one:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:how many times have I been shopping exactly like that only for son to say,' mum just because it is cheap does not mean it is nice:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: you are just trying to make me look stupid, do you want me to get bullied?:rotfl:

    Hey guys!

what an absolutle bum about the hours victory. I would be a bit annoyed at that really. Perhaps it was good that you didnt get the job, if they are that dis organised for a job position what would they be like in the day to day running of the place?

I was in Plumstead for the weekend. Cor blimey, talk about another World! My friend was scared the whole time! We live in a very white area so she is not used to becoming the minority race and she spent the whole time looking over her shoulder. What i am shocked about is how busy the bus is at 4am!! we had to stand up, i was soo shocked. Lovely smoking area on the roof of the club, looked out on the london skyline. It was gorge! Didnt get drunk because i wanted to keep my wits about myself and the men were that heavy i think i needed to.

Now i am on the job hunt! lets fingers cross it there is a job out there today with my name on it.

Hi everyone! Well it looks like my weight is up a bit this month, seems to be the usual story of as soon as I up the exercise without upping the calories enough to match, my body has a small freak out

Last week average intake 1842/day which was a bit less than recent weeks, but with exercise on the way up again (9hr 15min & 3250 calorie burn) it probably should have been higher.

:j I've now passed my goal of 1000km outdoor running and 1500km outdoor cycling in the last 12 months :j

Will post again when I've weighed officially, and I really need to find a way to lose these pesky few lbs now (without cutting it down to silly levels and ruining my metab again )

  • drat and double drat Victory. But well done on the effort - you never know when that frinedly approach may pay dividends in the future.
Like the sound of the family meeting: sounds like you and DH working as a team there with the kids. You know my feelings on [STRIKE]spawn-of-satan[/STRIKE] mopeds:D

Mum's talk went really well thanks sary. We both really enjoyed ourselves, and the kids asked some really intelligent questions. And my neice-in-law(the teacher) said she wished I lived nearer and could come in to help in the classroom more often and she hadn't realised I was so good with kids that age(10), which was took me by suprise and I appreciated it. I would love to do that sort of thing. Sadly yet again, my health holds me back from many things I would love to do. I've learnt to appreciate and value what I can do, but that doesn't mean it isn't hard sometimes...still, I may see if I can do the odd thing - they have a few local school trips coming up that I may go along with them.
The mosaic has been going well thanks, but is now being superceded by needing to decorate 2 rooms before Friday and working towards getting another lodger in asap.

Food wise, not too bad and hopefully the effort of decorating will use up a few calories flypig.gif...

Poohbear - the important bit is getting back on the wagon rather thanletting one slip up/treat write off the whole week for you.
Vix - good luck with the job hunt!
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
