My kids have to work for any pocket money they get, usually doing some odd jobs around the house.Well my eldest is out working now, but the youngest still does it. He usually gets me a little thingy from the £1 shop and a card, but he actually takes forever choosing it, bless him :D Then we'll bake a cake etc, but when u get to a certain age u stop celebrating anyway!

Well I was speaking to an old friend on fb/msn last night, and he's invited me away to the Algarve for my birthday in November :D He wanted to go in December, but due to my work commitments and not getting any time off in Dec, he suggested my bday instead!!! Think this will be the first time in years that my bday pressie hasn't come out of the £1 shop :D But now the youngest is upset that I won't be here for my birthday :rotfl:Hard trying to explain that it's MY birthday, not his. So I'm all excited now as i didn't think I would get a holiday this year as finances are a bit tight, will need to go shopping for some spring like clothes now :D

  • awww victory, what a rotten day. think sary's thing about being the organiser is spot on though - we put so much effort into things for others, it hurts when they don't seem able to do the same thing for us.

it seems it was my fault because I organized it all ahead of time:rolleyes: going into town now to spend spend spend or rather knowing me look look look:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
My eldest has to do house hold chores to earn his pocket money and the little one clean his room, nothing comes for free but the £50 birthday money was coming for free but not enough, I can feel partially sorry for him in this latest gadget look at me I am so cool because the day it came out my dad bought me the new PS3 slim line age my eldest lives in but on the other hand the stress it causes makes me feel less inclined to sympathize and more inclined to kick him out working for it:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Still not had any chocolate! I even found
some eclair sweets in the car that we had during a car trip, and gave one
to my little one after school for being a good boy and getting a housepoint
    today. There's willpower for you!

Well done Sary, keep it up! :j I'm on Day 5 without diet coke, don't
have the slightest inclination to go back to it (or other fizzy drinks) and I
don't think I will. Should have stopped ages ago, I feel pretty stupid that
I've been gradually improving my food diet all this time, but still drinking
    that stuff  :o
  • day four on the wagon and counting yay! I have a planned off-piste tomorrow in the form of a pie and pea supper, but I reckon if i have a green day, plan 20 syns for the pie and stay under the syns today i'll be fine. I'm taking a spanish omelette with me for my lunch. Been eating loads of eggs - ended up with 2 dozen dated 23 aug. I crack each one into a dish and have a good sniff and they've all be fine so far . . .
  • katiepoppy - if you fill a glass of water and put the egg in, if it floats if off (meaning there is now trapped air in it) if it sinks its fine to eat! no more cracking open horrible smelly eggs - i know its a completely random comment, but its a great wee tip to know! xx

Victory - I hope just the window retail therapy is fun. I like to window shop, then park up in a Starbucks with a skinny cappuccino and 'people watch' for a couple of hours. Such fun, and really interesting. Well, maybe I'm just a bit odd, but the BF likes doing it too.

As for the issue between BF and my son it seems to have calmed down now. They both seem to be rubbing along OK, but there's still a chill between me and the BF. I think he's unsure what to do, and scared to do anything now... possibly feeling a bit sorry for himself too (there's always another side to any story of course, and his would have him as an injured party too). I talked to my son about it yesterday, and he'd been unaware that the issue a week ago had created such a stink between us two, and he says he'd rather we were OK as a couple, and he can deal with the issue himself anyway. He's a very upfront 'can do' kind of kid, and will tackle this issue again with BF another day, but I've advised he leave it a while yet. Son is reassured that I am supportive of him, but he does have to knuckle down at school too, and I've encouraged him to prove the BF wrong about the predicted bad grades.

Mazza - your birthday in the Algarve sounds lovely. I went there in the '90s with DH to conceive a baby, and did! We were in Villamoura, near the Marina, which was gorgeous (apart from the timeshare salesmen). What your son won't realise, until he's much older, is that time away from normal life is an almost priceless gift.

BB - I like stirfries sometimes, but find that most of the contents in them now seem to upset my tummy. Isn't it disappointing how getting older can affect your body? Although, when I think about it, even as a youngster I struggled to digest certain foods. Now it's onions and peppers (which I love and could eat like an apple) which I really know about if I've eaten them.

Tonight we're having a h/m beef stew/casserole that I've got simmering away. It smells divine, has lots of veggies in there (including onions!), and will do us for several meals.
One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

Be nice to your children, they'll choose your care home
