Granny - would it console at all if I gave an indication of my OH's inability to throw anything away e.g. 25 years of bank statements... all in their original envelopes which can't be thrown either. I won't go into his folded plastic bag collection:rotfl:
Sorry BB but I can trump that -- OH has saved all the bank statements and all the wage slips since forever .. not the envelopes though .. so more than 40 years worth, mine and his. And empty plastic bread bags, to be used for sandwiches obviously, I counted over 40 then declared them a health hazard and chucked them. Seven fire proof safes in the loft, mostly holding his collection of guide books to historic buildings ....Today though I feel more positive so have decided that he can stay.
You didn't mention the fungi ???Why not?

Evening All,
Missy - well done at being Coke free. Do you usually have the caffeine free variety? That's always been the main thing to put me off Coke/Pepsi, so if I've ever had it in recent years, it has to be the caffeine free one, and the same for the boys. My friend is such a diet Coke fan, that she can even tell the difference between which 'distillery' it's been manufactured in, thats how much she loves the stuff. I struggle to drink anything with any fizz without hiccupping with each mouthful, and then burping loudly afterwards... not exactly ladylike I'll admit. No wonder I stick to tea and coffee (decaf of course)!
vix - ah to be 23 again... actually, not sure I'd want to be. I actually loved being 30, and being 40 something has been great too. I'd much rather have experience and knowledge over youth, now I've experienced both. I'd love to experience having my babies again though. No peeking at that present either though young miss!
victory - Harvester all the way I say. Good value, and you can eat what you are happy to have, which ticks all the boxes. As for the no chocolate decision, not a morsel has passed my lips. I have a bar of Fruit & Nut saved from our holiday, which I will save for a treat at Christmastime.
Granny - thanks for your supportive words, as usual. I have been in a real 'funk', as they say, for the past few days, and felt really down about things. Getting myself into a constant foul mood, and feeling negative about everything was just making me miserable, and being a horrid person to be around. Everyone else was fine otherwise. OH tried to reason last night that me being in a mood (I was angry with him actually, but I digress..), and not being willing to listen to him [STRIKE]complaining[/STRIKE] airing his point of view wasn't being very constructive, apparently. Anyway, today I decided that 5 days of feeling like a grumpy old woman was long enough, and better to try to put things back to normal, so I've been more amenable (apart from grounding argumentative children:rotfl:), and we've had a more normal day. I agree that lots of little things can add up to drive you insane sometimes, but then I assume that I must be an absolute angel to live with:A As for the 5 positive comments/actions a day... usually you only need make 2 with a man: feed him well & service him well at the end of the day;). Women on the other hand probably need more than 5 positive comments, and a limitless Black Amex Card. Simples!
I do try very hard to see things from other people's perspectives, but when emotional matters are at play, that's very hard to do. I don't take too kindly to criticism either, so that's bound to cloud my judgement! The issue between my OH and my son was regarding his exam results recently (1st yr of GCSE science in Y10) which were passes, but a couple of marks short of B's. OH's reaction to it was that they were krap, and he'd not tried for the past few years, and why would he change this year, so he predicted his next lot of results next summer will be equally kr@p. Not exactly constructive parenting advice I thought, and certainly not how I would have tackled the results, or reacted, so I was both shocked and disappointed. My son was upset, and defended himself by stating that since my OH has no exam results and left school at 15, he was hardly in a position to criticise. Well, I had to hand it to him there, his argument was sound... OH felt he was disrespectful in his attitude, and I was also wrong to have not backed him up at the time. I had actually been thinking what my son vocalised, so pointed out that I couldn't back him up, when I felt he was in the wrong.I believe OH had the best intentions, in that my son is at a grammar school where they strive for A's and anything less is under achieving, and my son does have the ability to have done better, but, he's only 15, and he has all of the next year to do better, and improve his grades, so it's not the end of the world. The last straw for me was that without my knowledge OH had threatened to throw my son out of the house if he spoke to OH like it again. That's the bit I am so angry about, apart from what I saw as bullying a child. It's out of character for my OH, so not quite sure where it all came from. Could it have been that as a failed grammar student he's wanting more for my sons with so much potential? It's just all so out of character...

Be nice to your children, they'll choose your care home0 -
My husband has been driving me crazy for the past couple of weeks (well years really), but tonight he did one good thing, and that was he'd already eaten the chocolate trifle! so it's off to bed for me with no yummy treat.
Sary I wouldn't worry too much about your sons result because as you and he says he can make up for it next year. Going back 14 years when I took my GCSE's my first result for science was an E, which I made up to a B when it mattered (when a B was considered good and there was no such thing as an A*). Your son can just go and prove your OH wrong.0 -
Well today (yesterday) was interesting. Took DD to the doc as a few spots have come up and apparently she has chicken pox. Again! This is the fourth time she has supposedly had them. She can't go back to school tomorrow (I mean today) and we can't go to Chicago for our anniversary. Sis who was to be babysitting will instead be coming to the theatre with me. Pooh sticks!
To console ourselves I went to Millies Cookies (OH looked after the little un) and bought a huge cookie with I Love You written on it. It was a day early but we all had a bit of it for dessert. I do think calorie wise though I shot myself in the foot. Ho hum.I would if I could but I can't so I won't!0 -

Thanks Sary, no it was the Diet coke, not the caffeine free one. I wasn't as into it as your friend who can spot subtle differences in the manufacturing though :rotfl: I could tell if it was out of date, or close to being out of date, that's about all
I wonder how long I have to not have any, for all traces of it to be gone from my system, anyone fancy taking a guess?0 -
gosh sary -I can see why you were upset:( I do think your OH was out of order, and from my emotion free distance, the fact (thankfully) that it was so out of character it certainly does make one question what was going on for him around the issue. And to threaten a 15yr old with being thrown out with a relatively small issue, does't leave much room for dealing with reall big issues should they come along does it. I though Victory made some really perceptive points. He also had no authority to issue such a threat. Obviously it has pressed some buttons for him.
It sound like you are already working on restoring normality. I hope your son is well and truely able to prove you OH wrong, and this episode may have that very silver lining as a result.
You are right Victory about the long term effect of emotions around exam results. I was devastated by my o'level results and it took me years to get over that.
Granny - the funghi are so low on the 'won't throw things away' agenda that I hadn't given them a thought:rotfl:. Seven, did you say seven fire proof safes?:rotfl:. Yup we have a bread bag collection too that I allow to reach about 10 before chucking. As for 40 yrs of bank statements - that's only coz he's lived longer:rotfl:. Oh, just remembered, funghi has been superceeded in importance by a very large bag of sheep's wool collected from the Downs that he plans to wash and spin......
Cazzy - that was very self sacrificing of your DH:D
Tagz - what a shame for all of you! Thoug at first I thought you had to cancel a trip to theStates! I've only just clicked that you meant a the musical!. Hope the LO doen't feel too bad. I had measles twice and German measles before I was 6. 1st time a a 6 month old.I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
reporting a sts this week ta.
lo all, had a fab weekend at old sarum, stayed reasonable good and actually ate lots of salad! feeling more confident this week and in control that I can get back on the wagon - so when i found this morning that OH had eaten what i'd planned for todays lunch i just found something else that worked instead of using it as an excuse to go off piste. This week I plan to stick to plan, and drink a 75cl bottle of water every day. sounds like you are having a rough ride sary, hope things pick up for you soon.0
