When I signed up this morning I told them that there seemed to be different accounts of what people had been told about whether to tell jds or not. I was told (that seems fairly sensible) that when I get my official start date for primus, I should then let jds know. He said this wasn't compulsory but would save jds wondering why they were no longer being used and hassling me. It would also clear up any possible discrepency of who and when had control of the cps carrier. He didn't recommend I tell them before the start date, as they could possibly decided to beat me to it and disconnect/terminate the service just to be awkward. They may of course not do this but always best to make sure. As I can cancel DD on online Banking anyway, I will probably due both ways.
  • How long does it take to receive the confirmation email after signing up with Primus. I called them and switched on Saturday but still haven't received anything from them. Have just sent them an email to try and chase this up.

I signed up with Primus near the end of last week. Got some emails from them earlier this week and today this email. I did not contact Just Dial.

    Our Reference: JDS-xxx-1
    Account Number: 413xxxxx

    Dear Mr X,

Just-dial Saver has received notification from BT that CPS is due to be switched off on your telephone line:

    Phone Number: 01524xxxxx
    Live CPS Option: All Calls
CPS Option to be Removed: All Calls
    Cease Date: 19 Apr 2006

From the cease date, you will no longer be billed by just-dial Saver for any calls.

If you are currently paying a monthly feee for your just-dial Saver plan this will cease when CPS All Calls ceases.

If you were not aware of this chagre or have any queries about this email, please email mailto:customercare@just-dial.com.

    Yours sincerely,

    Just-dial Saver

At any time, you can test whether your just-dial Saver "All Calls" CPS service is still live: simply dial 0800 594 5878 from the number you wish to test; if the service is live on that number, you will hear the message, "Thank you for calling just-dial. This call was routed via our CPS service." For the test to work, you must dial 0800 594 5878 without any prefix or access number.

    Hi.

I want to change to Primus.
Can it be done online, is there a link?

I don't want to phone as I'm away from the UK for a while.

Can I recommend THIS LINK TO USWITCH instead (it's an affiliate link which helps keep this site free).

However, I've just used uswitch myself (as I did last year - when I followed their recommendation to change to Primus Saver Option 2 CPS).

Entering my BT line rental and Primus Saver Option 2 call provider, the site came up with:
We've estimated your current yearly phone bill with BT Together Option1 and Primus Planet Talk Primus Saver Option 2 is £176.54.
    And their recommendation?

Incredibly, it was: Primus Saver Option 2 - to (somehow) save £12!

    Sort of destroyed my faith.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Since signing up yesterday I am having problems with getting Primus to read my e-mails properly. I do hope this isn't a bad sign. I first had a confirmation of Direct Debit which they had assumed was in my name only. I e-mailed them back to say this was incorrect as it was a joint account, and put exactly the names of the account. Today I have had another confirmation that is again wrong. Instead of putting Mr x sexy husband & Mrs x x hardworking wife, they have put it as Mr & Mrs husband/wife. So yet again I have had to e-mail them again, pointing out they have not read the e-mail properly, and here again is the correct names.

Try the personal approach - I hear they're pretty good on the phone.

I have just been onto Primus to change my call provider. It was pretty painless. Only hope I can cancel the Just Dial one just as easily. Thanks Martin and all contributers to this forum, for being one step ahead of the game!
    Keep on trucking!

You can also try USwitch to sign up to Primas via Quidco - for a potential cashback of £8.
