central ticketing

i parked outside poundstretcher but didnt notice the 1hr parking sign which might i add was very small- all it said was 1 hr customer parking max. I was 30 mins over but in store the entire time. I appealed the fine and sent them(central ticketing) proof that I was in store and when i had went thru the checkout.
I have now been told that my appeals unsuccessful and they have gave me 1 week to pay a reduced amount of £60, down from £85, but if I dont pay then it will go to £135, then if I dont pay that in 14 days it will then go to debt collectors then to a county court judgement.
Any body had dealing with this company before or know where I stand?
I am a single parent of 2 children and a full time student so expecting me to pay this amount in short notice is frightening.
What I feel is unfair was that I was in the store and spent £55 but according to the manager of the store it's nothing to do with them.

To them you are just a cash machine, its no more about stopping illegal the fly over the moon. There was absolutely no chance of them accepting your appeal as it means less money for them. The best thing to do now is to ignore them. You will get all sorts of invoices, letters with pretty writing and edging, threats to send in the bailiffs etc. All are empty threats. Keep the ticket from the till but you will not need it, they almost never take anyone to country court as they always lose. Just relax and have a good weekend.

  • What the hell could you buy in poundstretchers for 90 minutes.
  • thanks for the advice peter, much appreciated.

lol, i know 90 mins is a long time to be in poundstretcher but i met a couple of people i knew and I was leisurely browsing without the kids in tow! Something I don't get to do often.
Poundstretcher often have good stuff you know!!
The problem is I am a student midwife and accountable to the NMC so therefore have to be squeaky clean in my private life too. I'm worried that if it I ignore this and it does end up in court, I could be in serious trouble.

You will not end up in court - Just ignore them. Eventually (if not already) their threatening letters will make the already miniscule likleyhood of your being pursued quite impossible.

Just flne them for future evidence. Besides, this is a civil matter and the only people risking criminal action are them, with their fraudulent demands and impersination of "authority" :)

And search this forum - Central Ticketing have been discussed in greater detail before.

The manager is very probably lying to you.
I know this is after the event but perhaps it will help others. Never ever contact a PPC. Ever.

Just remember, the ONLY people who can LEGALLY do you for parking offences are local Authourities (Councils), and then only for parking on their property (i.e. public highways & Council car parks). ALL other parties have to sue for 'Trespass', and to be successful, they have to prove that the public have no right of access. In the respect of supermarket and privately-owned 'Pay and Display' car parks, and un-adopted roads serving housing estates, this would prove impossible, as the whole idea of their construction is to allow the public to access the facilities they were built to serve.
Imagine if you lived on an un-adopted road, and there was no public right of way, how would anyone be able to gain access to their properties?, even delivery drivers and your friendly dustman wouldn't be able to use it.

One thing to remember though is that organisations such as Central Parking never forget. You need to write a stiff letter pointing-out that you won't be paying and why. A Colchester man had dealings with these idiots, but because he ignored their letters, they sent a lorry down to confiscate his car, no court order or nothing, just a 'vehicle removal notice'. They reckoned he owed £22k in fines. His crime?, to park his people carrier outside his house on an un-adopted road (in Balkerne Heights) as it was 'to tall to park in his garage' (I used to own an MPV, and they are to wide to fit in a modern garage and still be able to get out of them). His vehicle is a Taxi, and the law on removing goods to cover debts forbids bailiffs from taking 'tools of the trade', so they breached the law themselves by doing what they did.
    Never Knowingly Understood.
