Planted on 1st June and romping away, with flowers forming. When do you think? (I walk past them every day and it's like having to look at my Christmas presents under the tree - no idea what's in there & can't wait!)
It's exciting isn't it?
The tatties will be ready for harvest when the plants start to go brown. Wilting leaves and such is a good sign of them being just about ready.
So I'm afraid you'll have to be a little bit more patient.0 -

the babies/thinnings we eat raw in salads. Any bigger ones get stirfried, they don't take long to cook.
Otherwise, steam lightly until just tender. Then in a frying pan, brown off ginger, garlic in sunflower oil. then add some soya sauce to the oil and garlic and ginger mix. Then pour it all on the pak choi.0 -
This is the time of year when all the earlier hard work starts to reap some benefits.
We've had masses of mixed salad leaves and bunching spring onions. The first courgettes and kohl rabi will probably be reading for picking next week. Some Swiss Chard leaves are just crying out to be picked. We've had two pickings of strawberries for desserts with two bagfulls frozen for mixed compotes later in autumn. With luck the gooseberries may be ready next week. Have no idea how many potatoes are lurking in my various potato containers but it's all happening out there.
Have also picked a nice crop of caterpillers from my few cabbage plants before they started to do too much damage. Unfortunately the birds won't eat this variety so they got flushed down the loo!0 -
Mixed spicy salad leaves are doing extremely well and getting various different lettuce leaves. I have the feeling somehow that I'm never going to do at all well with courgettes/peppers - darn it.....I guess you just have to know your limitations and, if you've had several attempts at a particular plant and it hasnt worked out (even if its supposed to be dead easy) think..."Okay...I'll grow something else instead"...
So - loadsa salad leaves so far....0 -
