They must be a friendly lot around here then; although I find that other runners and cyclists generally ignore me I see a lot of retired folk and dog walkers who say a cheery hello as they pass.

Dog walkers were about the best I did yesterday, too.

I didn't bother with people in the actual city itself, as there are way too many to greet sensibly, but 6 miles was along a canal path, so thought people along there would be more friendly. A couple of fishermen gave me a nod as I passed, but everyone on the barges ignored me, most cyclists did. (even those I'd moved aside for...quite annoyingly. Although one of them, who forced me into the bushes by going crazy-fast under a low bridge did get called a forkmuppet by a slightly grumpy idio. Oh yeah and some daft bobby also got told to move his forking bike out of the middle of the path, too :o)

Cyclists were broadly divided into commuters and recreational - did a lot better with the recreational riders than the commuters. Walkers, young, old, worky, relaxy, were all a bunch of meanies and the other joggers were mostly too busy looking cool with their ipods on. Still, I won't let this break my cheery manner..I will continue to try and spread a little happiness..:D

They're miserable round here too, it's a small town so lots of people know each other but they're very clicky. I ran past a snotty runner (male) the other day and he didn't respond to my hello, nor another bloke a few minutes later. But then 2 older men walking their dogs said good morning so an average niceity (my new word!) rate of 50%!!

Good stuff, BT - we'll see you on Saturday! Well done to Mrs BT on wanting a quiet early morning!:D

When I said '4 of us' that was including you, so there will be Mascott, Becky, Me and thee. Not bad really since we'll be making up about 4% of the field!:D

Great. Yeah, I think the option of a lie-in swayed her! Mascott isn't definite from what I can tell, but a strong DFW presence either way! What do you normally do with your bags, or don't you bring much? Becky looked after mine last time. Mind you, this time I'm not likely to need anything except a fresh t-shirt!

Normally we leave them under the trees :D:D, theres a few peeps around during the race (volunteers and spectators) so it seems pretty safe but I dont take my phone or anything and I keep my house keys in my shorts pocket :p

Cool, I'll do the same then. No one wants to steal an old bag with just a t-shirt in it. I don't even need house keys, I'll just bang on the door Fred Flintstone style yelling "Wilma!"*

I'm agreeing with becky from yesterday - we are crazy running in this heat. But I did nonetheless. Out again at lunchtime today to do 6.75m in 1:09:46 (10:19/mile). Took it steady felt OK. Last couple of miles I slowed more than I'd have liked but there was no shade or breeze like there was earlier in the run and I certainly didn't push it. Could see my heart rate higher in the latter miles than would be expected for the pace/terrain. Being sensible! Though I would still far rather run in that sun that in the collected humidity of the day like Tuesday.

Total this week = 21.1 miles

Good runs yesterday evab, Alias, becky, rich, and Idio. Good run today Simply, and beertins and congrats on the new job. And good runs Hobsch. Apologies if I've missed anyone there.

Very few speak to you in Berkshire either. Best interaction I get is on the early runs round home at the weekend - mostly from other runners at that time. And a little old lady who always kindly holds her dog in, and scolds me if I run on the road around her in case of being run over :) Or tells me runners are silly for going out in the rain :) No-one spoke/nodded to me on Tuesday running in the same area, depsite me seeing far more than I often do. I make sure to thank the very few sensible dog owners who keep their animals under control but many of those don't really respond either.

Going back to the music or not - I like my running time as thinking time. Especially at lunchtimes if I need to clear my head from work annoyances. But I do like interweb provided music at other times...

    I have too modes:

    1) Running to think
    2) Running to forget

Music's not great for the first, but *fantastic* for the second :)

I think when I'm running to forget I need to work through things mentally so I'd not end up listening anway :o
