Never got to bed last night until 12 or so and up at 05.30 this morning due to the Hayfever!!!!
Feel very tired now and doubting if I will get out tonight but I will wait and see later!!
If I dont get tonight I will not get out until the weekend at some point!!!0 -
Also I never ran with music until recently and I do find it good for motivation!! As some of you may remember from my earliest posts I have only got back into running after 6-7 years of doing nothing and music I never bothered with then!
I do have to agree somewhat with Rich as it may have an effect on concentration!
When I go out I do focus on my breathing and keeping it in a rhythm0 -
Well, did a 10.7 last night, just to show my legs still have *some* distance in them, still.
Was hot, even at 8ish when I got back, was still around 28 or something daft.
Got round in 1:35 though, so under 9min/mile average, which I was pleased with, given the heat.
Not all good news though
a) it was about 3 miles longer than i set out to do - got a little lost, oops
b) Sounds stupid, but I was quite upset by how mean people are in the city. I know when I used to live in the sticks I complained that few people would respond when you say "good evening" etc, when passing - but I'd have thought that 40% of them did, something like that. Running where I live now, I'd say it's around 1-2%, seriously. I always thought that Oxford was quite a friendly city, but turns out it's full of snobs too self-important to give you a smile as you pass. In fact, the split was mainly between those that just ignored me and those that actively looked the other way. Very sad reflection on modern society imho0 -
Another run in the early hours from me. Nice to use a cool part of the day, as long as I can drag myself out of bed! Don't know if I've mentioned, but I've got a new job which starts on the 20th. The hours are 08:30 to 17:30, so I'll need to be disciplined to still get up and do these morning runs then. In my current job we show up between 09:00 and 09:30 and leave between 17:00 and 17:30 (all depends on workload), so it may be a bit of a culture shock. Then again, my boss will be in the US, so I don't know how closely my hours will be controlled!
I'm going to Brighton on Saturday, but will aim to make Wimbledon anyway, as long as I don't get back too late for Mrs. Beer Tins liking. If there will be 4 others, I've got to make the effort! Who else is coming? I don't expect a record time in this weather, I'm 8+ minute miling an that's on my 06:15 runs!
My own runs are mostly done round the lake in the park on the bottom of my road. Because it is a) one of the few flat areas and b) much nicer than running on the road. I can check on the various bird life and how their young broods are doing. Plus I "know" most of the runners and dog walkers there and always get a "hello" or "morning" with a smile and/or other banter. Guess my corner of South London is quite down to earth and not too snobbish. Most people are quite friendly.
RE: Music, I never take my ipod. I prefer to use the time to think and reflect/clear my head. Each to their own, though.
Well that's quite a long rambling post from me, back to work. Keep up the running everyone, but take it easy and stay hydrated.Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -

Good stuff, BT - we'll see you on Saturday! Well done to Mrs BT on wanting a quiet early morning!:D
When I said '4 of us' that was including you, so there will be Mascott, Becky, Me and thee. Not bad really since we'll be making up about 4% of the field!:D
Nice to hear that I'm not that weird by running without music!:p
Idio - you're right that there is certainly a difference in different areas. Up here it would be unusual if someone didnt respond, but then again its only going to happen 2 or 3 times per run whereas in London you just dont bother because there are too many people to acknowledge anyway! Good (extended) run by the way.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

They must be a friendly lot around here then; although I find that other runners and cyclists generally ignore me I see a lot of retired folk and dog walkers who say a cheery hello as they pass.
Like beertins I was out early again this morning - hilly run again today - they come round with amazing regularity

Although I do find lots of runners in the parks smile when I smile at them...maybe they feel sorry for me because I look rough - some fat teenager told me 'not to pass out and hurt myself' yesterday - I was 6 miles in or I might have stopped to punch him!0
