  • Hmmm, I was wondering that Becky ;)

    I was only fishing evab (coz I'm nosy) :D I have to admit that I was nervous of posting that I wanted to run a marathon but as the weeks have gone past and my mileage has increased I'm becoming more confident that I will get there. I think that once I've managed to run 16 miles I will know that I can do it (unless I get injured) and I'm already lining up another goal for next year. :rotfl:

    I don't want to tell anyone yet as it will also involve some charity fundraising and I certainly don't want to let the recipients down as it's very important to me and my family. All will be revealed soon enough! Just a few weeks until I get into a good stride lol.

    But then when you get to 16 you will want to make sure by getting to 20 :p...

    Went out at 7:30 and did 12 and a bit mile in 2:05. A few walk breaks as the legs were playing dead tonight. That and i kept getting flies in my eyes, bloody things. Calves ache a bit now and so do my hamstrings but thats nothing new.

    Went out for a 21 miler around Battersea yesterday afternoon, the first 6 miles with Becky on her road to recovery which is progressing nicely:D, but cut it 1 lap short as I was in danger of drowning in the puddle of sweat that I had become!:p

    All good miles in the bank though and it is sessions like these that really teach the body how to operate more efficiently. Absolutely no hunger whatsoever yesterday evening - the whole emphasis was on drinking!

    Simply - Another great run. It is no longer of any surprise when you knock out these long runs but I am mightily impressed with your overall progress, mainly due to the consistency of effort.

    KMS - Good race report. You're right about the hill being a bit of a tester, but I cant criticise it too much because it helped me out last week by tiring the leader's legs!;)

    JJ - Sounds like a baptism of fire in terms of your first half marathon. Great effort - you have now conquered the distance and just imagine how much extra confidence that will give you when lining up for your next one on a less bumpy course.:D

    Good efforts by Blade and Evab as well - come on evab whats the secret? I promise not to tell anyone.;)

    Any new races that need adding/amending - let me know and I'll make the necessary changes!

    Black = Completed Races.
    Blue = Planned Races.

    The blue figures next to the results are the WAVA age grading percentage followed by the relevant world record to which the time is being compared.

    With age grading everyone is on an equal footing - the score takes out any advantage/disadvantage due to age and any advantage/disadvantage due to being male/female.

    So whatever your age or sex if you score 52% it is better than another person's 51% regardless of their age/sex.

    So what are the scores? They are quite simply a measure of your performance compared to the person who holds the world record for that distance in your age group and of your gender.

    Clearly some of the WRs are out of date, but there has to be a stable basis on which to calculate otherwise the gradings would need to be re-computed every time a WR changes.

    So, in simple terms your WAVA rating is:

    Your time is 4 x World Record 25.00%
    Your time is 2 x World Record 50.00%
    Your time is 1.5 x World Record 66.67%
    Your time is 1.25 x World Record 80.00%

    Got up this morning and then remembered I was doing earlies at work (well 8:30 anyway :p) and had to cut my run short to 3 miles - did it in 29:56 so bang on 10 minute miling again - but boy its hot out already!!!

    Going to a very early run tomorrow to try and miss the heat as much as possible since its predicted to be 32 degrees here :eek:
  • Morning all :D Some fab running going on this weekend i see, well done to all of you who risked the heat!
