Sub 25 min 5k finally
Yep i finally managed to go sub 25 for a 5k. Its not a case of not trying enough but more a case of there being no 5k's locally. So far i have ran 3, all of which were park run ones. Did wimbledon last year day before FLM as i was down supporting a mate whilst on the come back from shin splints. Stopped off at Bramhall on the way down to the parents last july for a half. Then yesterday i was intending to go to Manchester anyway so popped along to the Heaton Park one.
Wasn't the greatest paced race but then i'd never an the course before so i wasn't aware there was such an annoying hill in the middle. Was also rather hit and muggy despite the lack of any real sun and the short heavy shower earlier. THe evening rain however was torrential
Was working friday night so it was nigh on midnight when i got home and well after 1 before i went to bed. Cat was out when i got home too and never reappeared until 3:30am. At the front door trying to get in once again. She has a habit of going out the back then reappearing at the front at 3:30 for some reason. Went downstairs, shhut the back door first then let her in. Back to bed for an hour being the alarm was set for 4:50 (to much hassle changing the minutes too) as i needed to be away ealy for the race.
Left around 5:45, fuelled the car and whizzed down to my mates before heading over to HP. Was about 20 to 9 when we got there so no time for a warm up as such but i know where i'll jog round in future. Bumped into McNewbie and kids on the way to the cafe for the start. Met a few more fetchies at the start, Grid and Windassisted plus OH.
Soon set off and owing to the small field was swiftly on my own with people a fair way in front to follow round. First km took 4:41 which is a bit fast i think. Second km was done in 4:21 which is way to fast and i was beginning to suffer already.
Km 3 was up the hill in the middle as well as most of the way round the hall and took 5:31 and was bloody hard work. Km 4 was back past the hall and down towards the lake. This one took 4:34 which was mostly down to the downhill i would say as it was still a struggle. The final km is round the lake past the car park and took me 5:19 and i was outsprinted to the line too. Well i say outsprinted i was beyond sprinting long before then.
Mile splits from the garmin say this
7:13 erm my mile PB is 7:20 !!!!!!
8:29
8:00
0:46 for last 0.11 @ 7:06 pace
Total 3.11 miles 24:29 @ 7:52 pace. Ave HR was 167 peaking at 180.
Waited at the end with Grid for McNewbie to get the kids round the 5k before heading off back to the car for a quick change before heading into the city centre to get some new trainers. £100 for christs sake. Still at least i know what i can wear so can look for cheaper places on the net.
Back to my mates briefly before heading over to the trafford centre for him to get an Iphone and me to go DVD shopping. THen Subway and cinema (The Hangover, surprisngly better than i thought it would be) before back to my mates for wimbledon watching. Got home at midnight and was up around 7 due to it being so hot. Still feeling tired but will go out for a run later this afternoon.Debt free Nerd number 1122 LBM Jan 2009 Debt @ LBM £40,086.88 (14/01/09)

So just got home after doing the R4L in Doncaster this morning, had aimed to do it in 40 mins, managed it in 37 which I was well chuffed with as this was my 1st time. May have been quicker, apart from a mishap with some dog turd (totally vile) which meant I had to stop to clean my trainer - sorry but I was gipping it was that gross
So now onwards and upwards, was looking on Runners World for a 10k in September time, other than the Great Yorkshire Run, there are a few to be going at so I will make a decision soon.
I was sooooo chuffed with myself and managed to raise £250 as well :T

Well Done Blade thats a great time and a good amount raised for charity.
Just back form the Mansfield 1/2 marathon, the weather was just right albe a little bit to humid but other than that a good day to run, the clouds stayed long enough for us to complete the race.
Im well chuffed as i managed to get round in 2.14.57. and boy was it hilly, iv never run up so many hills even in training( something for me to practice) and the one at the 9 mile point broke a lot of people, it started of nice and gentle then got steeper and steeper then right at the top turned into a humpback ridge so hard. Then it just undulated back to the finish.
Still managed to finish with a nice little sprint but i got beat by a guy pushing his disabled friend in a wheel chair !!! ( he had done 15 marathons as well)
So all in all a good race and a good bench mark for next time.Running Club5KM - 25:20(51.21%) 10KM - 53:40(50.26%)1/2 Marathon - 2.14.57(44.20%)Marathon 5:11:00 (40.78%)0 -
Well done km, blade and JJ - some great runs there, the humidity is horrible here.
I went out at 0900 this morning and I was boiling, I did 4 miles but my legs felt so heavy all the way that I couldn't get into a decent stride. Never mind another little step or two to my goal (which is still a secret!)0 -
Congratulations to km (liking the write up), blade and JJ - some great runs going on!
Thanks Simply - though I'd also be well chuffed with 10:44 pace on 14 miles! Working my distances back up (slowly)... Dunno how you run on a hangover UK but it seems to work cracking out over 16 miles again!0 -
Well done to everyone today been a great running day!
JJ - what a fab result for your first half!!!
Some good running from Simply (as usual), evab, Uk and Blade as well!
Phew I've done it - cracked 10k again with 7 miles in 79:30 or 11:35 min/mile pace - gosh its hot out there!!! Was hoping to get to 8 miles but had to walk the last mile as my legs were spent - but I am happy anyway as thats a big distance to work up to over a week, I've run 9 out of last 10 days (with one chosen rest day rather than enforced) and I've run just over 20 miles this week
May have a little run tomorrow and then see where next week takes me - hopefully to 10 miles in prep for Eccup in 2 weeks time - gosh I hope its a bit less humid then
Rich is still out looking as cool as cucumber on his 21 miler
Right off for a shower...0 -

*ahem* a marathon??
We're dying to know but I understand - I felt a bit of a fool telling all and sundry about my 3:30 plans and missing them by miles - but remember if you aim high and dont get there - at least you've got fit trying
Good luck!0
