Banned For Life !!!!!!!!!!!!!:rotfl::rotfl:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/edinburgh_and_east/8120637.stm

For goodness sake, I could easily have committed the same 'crime' last Sunday. I had numbers '468' and '469' - how easy would it have been to use the wrong one and end up in the ladies' prizes?

Having said that, being banned for life from a race that runs out of water may be a blessing in disguise!!:p:p

    Now read the rules:

    Rules of the Race.................................................

    1. Athletes must consume a total of 4 English, Imperial pints* (20fl. oz.) of freshly poured carbonated Larger/Cider of at least 4% vol., one at the beginning of each of 4 laps (+9.3m) of an imperial mile on track. The sequence of events being: Pint 1, Lap 1, Pint 2, Lap 2, Pint 3, Lap 3, Pint 4, Lap 4, starting from the mile start line (1609m total), synchronised with other competitors and timekeeper by an independent starter (gun, whistle, shout all accepted as starting methods).

    Notes:
    i. 1/2 pints accepted for separate female ranking list.
ii. Alchopop substitutes not accepted for record purposes.
iii. Each Pint MUST be consumed from a single standard SOFT PLASTIC 'glass'.**
iv. Fresh pints defined as those being poured from pump within 1 hour of the event or poured from a freshly opened can within 30mins of the event. (Event delays accepted). Any 'flat' drinks eg. real ale, Guinness, drink left open all day/overnight, are NOT valid for record purpose due to the added difficulty of consuming freshly carbonated drinks.

    2. Each pint must be fully consumed (acceptable spillage allowed***) in the 'change over zone' defined as the distance between the mile start line and the 400m start line painted on the track.

    3. The track of competition must be synthetic, fully ratified by UKA .
NB. No grass equivalents accepted as official world records, although times will still stand in rankings with special note.

    4. For future record purpose, any sub-5m30 performances can only be accepted if backed up by video/pictorial evidence outside of the official Loughborough Chunder Mile where the quantity of observers and quality of scrutiny has always been and will always be accepted if video evidence is not available.

    5. This is the Chunder Mile. Sickness is permitted at any time during the race and is encouraged by the fans and crowd at all times. However, the full pint should be consumed in between each of the 4 laps before embarking on the following lap and sickness should be avoided during the period of consumtion as to not breach the acceptable spillage policy. This will be scrutinised heavily in the event of a record being set.

    6. Performances accepted for record purpose must be FULLY accepted by 3 of the BCMC panel of Chunder Mile experts after careful analysis of viedo/pic/eye-witness accounts of the event ****.

    7. The Blue Ribband event, The Chunder Mile, will always be held after the final Loughborough Students AC athletics match of the season, at Loughborough track. Note, this is the UK Championships for the Chunder Mile, NOT the only official event of the year.

** Due to safety reasons real glass should not be used due to danger of standing on glass in the changeover zone. For the same reason, a 'hard' plastic glass is not permitted due to risk of injury from standing on discarded empties (ie, plastic that could smash like glass). For this reason, and due to the added difficulty of not spilling from a soft 'glass', performances with 'hard' plastic cups or glass cups will be viewed as performance enhanced and dangerous and will be excluded for record purpose.

*** Acceptable spillage due to difficulty to drink fast from a soft plastic glass, filled to brim, is accepted within reasonable limits. Any blatant pouring OR 'spitting out' before the consumption of the full pint will result in a non-ratified performance for record purpose. disqualification and ratification all subject to video/pictorial evidence (see rule 4 for video back up evidence).

**** BCMC official performance adjudicators are currently:

Ben 'The' Green 'Machine’ - BCMC creator and active chair.

Chris 'The Binman' Parr - Current WR holder and Rules Secretary

'Pistol' Pete Holmes – Chunder Miler and international event endorser/promoter

    ........................................................Disclaimer............................................................

Chunder Miles are undertaken at the participants own risk. The BCMC, nor any other sporting governing body/facilities providers, takes ANY liability whatsoever for damage and/or injury and/or illness resulting from attempts at The Chunder Mile.

The point being that it is very, very wrong but at the same time seriously impressive.

These guys are not muppets, they are some of the best athletes in the country (it is Loughborough after all).

To have any chance of getting near 5 minutes for this they have to be 4 minute milers....and there aren't many of those about!!!!

Well the contrast with that picture of the icy Wimbledon posted yesterday couldn't have been starker this morning - it was oppressively hot!!

After just the warm up I was sweating buckets so we knew it was going to be a toughie. So although the aim was to run a sub 19 today, considering the conditions a new PB for this course of 19:05 (previous best 19:17) has got to be seen as a satisfactory outcome. And a top 10 position is always pleasing.;)

Becky ran another 4 miles this morning, roughly speaking, taking in the warm up plus the first lap of the race in 14:15 before falling victim to the hangover from last night's bubbles intake :p- so thats 8 out of the last 9 days now showing that the consistency is coming back. And something close to 20 miles this week after being out for a good few weeks is good going.:D
