Reporting in with todays run - 6.7 miles in 1:06:20 (9:53/mile pace). Started out slowly and did the last 3.7 miles faster. Tis quite hot out there tho' as Idio says

Just enjoying home made (of course! this is MSE) chicken tikka sandwiches to get my carbs and protein recovery fix :rotfl:

Sorry E.C - no idea on the Timex, though Amazon often have deals on these things but it is a bit random as to when they do them! In terms of cheaper, if you just want a stopwatch, a cheap £5 casio will do the job for you.

Total this week = 17.7 miles

    Hey everyone.

Have been keeping on with the running - today I ran 5.3km. Am still v chuffed with myself every time I get to 5km.

OK - stupid question alert - sorry to all you professionals out there!

Why is it that between 2-4km I feel rubbish and really have to push myself, but when I get past 4km, I feel loads better?

btw Becky - pretty impressive getting chatted up AFTER a run - the other day I was told I looked like a beetroot.:rotfl:
Onward and upward - with the odd step to the side

Its just the same as with a car - it operates far more smoothly after a few miles 'warm up' when the tyres are up to temperature, the oil is flowing into all the nooks and crannies etc.

You're describing the warming up period during which you're bringing your muscles up to temperature and extending their elasticity. You're also pushing your lungs out to a volume they havent experienced over the previous few hours so there's an initial resistance. But once the oxygen and blood are flowing everything seems to click and things flow smoothly..

The reason Becky got chatted up AFTER a run is because its the only time she is breathless enough for anyone else to get a word in edgeways!:p;)

  • Got out and done my usual 3.7 miler and felt really good to!!

I was going to push for the 4.5 miler but taking into account the heat I left it for another day!!

In relation to the watch situation I found this on amazon does it look any good?

The main aim tomorrow will be to complete the set and get the Wimbledon 5K time to sub 19 mins. We will see........

    Happy running today everyone..:D:D
