  • I think the fartlek runs are my favourite Rich as they give me a chance to challenge myself (if I feel like it). I'm not entering many races at the moment as I want to concentrate on building my distances so it's nice to up the pace now and again. ;)

    Morning pink. :hello:

  • Got out last night and found it tough again!!

I did 3.7 miles again last night as I had to stop and walk for a min or so!! My legs are fine its just my lungs were not the best felt very warm and took a cramp early on, I think I may be starting to fast and this could be my problem!! My legs feel very stong as Rich mentioned very early to me beginning running again my legs would remember!!

I am not putting the consistance approach in place which I feel is a must if you want to go further!!

    Morning everyone

Any idea of a stretch I can do - for the muscle just above the back of the knee? Keeps getting really tight when I am running.

    Thanks in advance;)

  • Morning simply

I'm in your boat, i'm not going to enter anything for a while, i was considering the sheffield 10k in september but i don't think i'll have done enough training to have made any real difference to the stats i got in May.

distance/stamina building here we come :D

make sure you trim your nose hair, and a breathe-right strip can be a god send, especially if you get the menthol ones.

That's your hamstring. I'm not the world's best stretcher, but you can try:

    1) standing up, put the leg you want to stretch forward, keeping it straight and resting on the heel. Push down just above the knee. Bend the other leg as required.

    2) Lying on your back, with the leg straight, hold your leg at the calf and pull back.

    3) Lying on your back, with the leg bent, hold your leg at the knee and pull back.

    4) The classic. standing up, legs straight, bend over and try to touch your toes. Doesn't matter if you can reach them or not. If you're very flexible, put your hands flat on the floor. I've never been able to do that!

For all stretching, hold in a reasonably comfortable position for at least 5 seconds and then stretch a little further right at the end.

Others with more stretching knowledge may be along shortly, but one or more of those may work for you.

You know what you're doing yourself then! On most of your runs you should be breathing heavily, but not be getting out of breath. If you catch yourself pushing too hard, concentrate on shortening your stride length a bit to slow down.
