Its amazing how I feel qualified to give advice on intervals when I've havent cracked um yet :p

(I know ALL the theory though and I will get it if it kills me ;))

You're right of course - the actual distance isnt important from a training pov - only if you are comparing with others - I was running mine at 7:30 miling when I realised its 1.25 miles and not 1 mile  no wonder I was slow!!

    Hi all

Am hoping to join in and keep motivated with a bit of support! I did my first race on Sun Leeds 10k, was the furthest I'd ever run since starting Aug 08 and was quite pleased to do it 1h 14.5 mins. I am doing The Great North Run in Sept and the London marathon in 2010 so need to keep momentum going really.

    Thanks

Hi Smetf and welcome, congrats on the first race :T

Do you have a London place already or are you in the ballot for one??

Good luck with training anyway :D

    Hi
have got a charity place, only heard for definite two weeks ago so not really got my head round it yet.
Am sort of planning to concentrate on 1/2 marathon training up to Great North Run, then change focus after that. 13 miles feels like far enough to worry about at the moment.

Afternoon all - did a 6 miler today at lunchtime in 1:01:24 - very chuffed with that. Average pace of 10:13/mile. And I really was not trying to push it (though I still couldn't have kicked like I'd want to in a race). I decided after the first mile to go with what my body felt comfortable with, as it felt a whole lot less dead than in the last ten days or so. Seemed to be quite happy at between 10:00 and 10:30 a mile depending on the amount of incline there was. So not quite where I was in that I tended to be able to keep pace regardless of incline with the sorts of incline on this run, but a whole heap better than it has been.

Really happy to have had a run where I could get into a "groove" regardless of the pace :j:j The advice last week was invaluable - so thanks once again :T

Total this week = 6 miles.

    Welcome smetf!

Well done Krider - thats great news :D and a great run :D

Smetf - a few peeps are doing GNR I think - check the racing list on the previous page :D, my only advice would be to run a few runs over the distance if you can - my first half was undulating and very hard work and boy was I glad of the reassurance of knowing I could at least finish the distance ;)
  • Hello and welcome smeft; you'll find lots of support and motivation on here :hello:

Great running krider; it's good when a run feels 'right' isn't it? :T
