Nice bit of symmetry there - you breaking your PB by 8 secs and hubby by 6 secs!
Ah, thanks Steve! So, you guys had a good morning too, well done - Becky, you're change of approach is really paying off eh, glad you're feeling better about everything and enjoying yourself again.
Hubby wasn't going to run today, it's his birthday, but when I got up - he couldn't resist - funny, 'cos he says 'I don't run, but I go along with Bev sometimes', ha ha - he's defo got the running bug!
Nike have sent me a free Nike+sportband, to log my mileage over the next month for Park run. But it says you have to have special nike trainers to hold the pod thingy. It's only small, does anyone know if it will work if I just put it carefully in my sock or something? I really don't want to invest in new trainers right now, mine are comfy and I want to wear them for the 10k next weekend. I don't mind going for miles over 4 weeks - it'll be a good incentive, but the trainer thing has got me a bit. I'm wondering if it's like a pedometer, or if it needs to be in the sole of your shoe for some 'stamping' reason. i'd never buy one of these things 'cos you can't replace the battery, so when it wears out, you have to buy a new pod for £12ish!
All suggestions please!
Taking daughter to uni tomorrow so no run time - boo hoo.0 -
Hey guys - I've been very quiet this past few weeks as I have been working a lot. A lot of lots.
Anyway, I'm trying to figure out a vague training schedule, something more than the less aimed running that I have been doing just to get fitter. I figure that one of the things I need to get it place is roughly when I should be aiming to do the short-term 5K, 10K races, half marathon, 20 miles etc. in order to give myself something to aim for, so that I can get there, race-fit in time for the big day. However, I want these to be realistic aims which can be reached: there's no point aiming to do a 5K at the end of Novemeber, then say I'll to 10K half way through December! I need to know how long it will realistically take to train from 0-5K, 5-10K etc.
I know you guys don't know me or my fitness level etc., but I was wondering if you guys had any vague notions of how long it could realistically take? Don't worry, I'm only looking for a vague idea of when I should roughly be hoping to do these thing, and will not come back saying 'But X said I should be doing a 10K by now.' etc.
Thanks!
P.S. Nice pic, Becky! :cool:Please call me 'Pickle'

TBH.... i got some Nike+ shoes with the gap for the disc ( now relagated to 5k only shoes )...
i dont see why if you slip the disk under any insouls why it would not work. as long as you can not feel it when your running and as long as it stays in the place IE under the arch of your foot.but I was wondering if you guys had any vague notions of how long it could realistically take? I dont see why you can not go from the TV room to 10k in 2 months.. running 3 - 4 times a week... if your an Ave person that is.. with no underlaying issues.Cabbage Patch 09 - 10m - 1hr 06mLeicester 09 -1/2 - 1h 26m0 -

Thanks UK :T: will start looking round for a 5K and then a 10K to enter in about that timeframe, (maybe with an extra week or two in case.). I'll then adjust accordingly. Please call me 'Pickle'

Woke up feeling much better this morning; only a slight headache and no achy/shakys so thought that I would try a run. I knew that 20 miles probably wasn't on the cards but thought that I would just do what I could - I warned OH that I would be gone anything from 1/2 hour to 4 hours :rotfl:
I felt really good up to 15 miles when I started tiring so I cut a loop short and made my way home - I'm really pleased that I managed 17 miles on the back of this week's virus.:D
I'm away to a conference tomorrow so probably won't get to run again until I'm back on Wednesday evening but I'll take my running gear in case I can sneak out at some point on Tuesday.
