Dont worry about the speed keep your chin up.. you might find most of it is to do with what you are doing now..
In thats when im out buy myself I can not seem to go faster than 9 min miles... when at running club have to go at about 8 min miles to keep up... but then on race day manage to find 7min miles.. dont ask why... just the way it works out.
that or im just very lazy when im out by myself..Cabbage Patch 09 - 10m - 1hr 06mLeicester 09 -1/2 - 1h 26m0 -

my runs
Mon 21/9 4.01 Miles 42:38(11:07/mile)
Tues 22/9 4.59 Miles 51:03 (11:02/mile)
Wed 23/9 restday
Thurs 24/9 8.69 Miles 1:34:26 (10:52/mile)
Will be going out for 5ish miles this afternoon. The run I did yesterday I last ran exact same distance and course on july 24th which was 8.69miles 1:50:01 (12:40/mile) so showing improvement now.
Rich those 3 races are all paid for. I noticed the Freckleton one has a 2hr40m cut off not that I will be anywhere near running that slow by then
On paper I am only two seconds faster per mile than i was in april but then I could only just run 3miles and I had to have a restday afterwards
Oh I'm probably doing Heaton Park tomorrow is anyone else? Also I registered a few weeks ago so do I just turn up and run? does everyone start at the same time and how is the timing done? how early should I get there before the start?
Cheers
KYCU
Nice improvement, KYCU - you will keep improving for a long time yet, it takes at least 2 years to get anywhere near to potential but more like 5 years in reality.:D
Re Heaton Park - yep, just turn up and run. All the parkruns start at the same time, 9:00am. Dont be too surprised if you turn up and there doesnt seem to be anyone around, its often only the last 15 minutes when you get any indication thats theres going to be a race - expect about 60 people tomorrow.
The start is by the building next to the lake. Good luck (and watch out for the hill after the first small loop).
Re Freckleton - You'll really enjoy that one. Its pretty flat on open but quiet roads and is the centrepiece of the village carnival. Its also the oldest 1/2 marathon in the UK. This was the former marathon world record holder, Ron Hill, finishing this year's race behind the race organiser:Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

I love the explanation as to why he has such an unusual running style with his left arm crooked - because when he was doing his 10k runs to school and 10k runs home again he had to carry his books, hence all his formative running was done with his arm in that position.
It just shows though that theres no point in trying to correct running abnormalities that have already been accounted for by the body.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Evening all, I am starting to get nervous about Sunday now  but I am really pleased that I followed the advice from Becky/Rich to run the 8miles so that I know I can do it.
You'll be fine, no need to worry...
If you've any questions about the course or race day do let me know and i'll do my best - it is, afterall, the unknown that's most scary0 -
