  • How on earth does anyone use their mobile phone and run, I can do nothing but try and breath and RUN! It's a total mental and physical focus, that's partly what I like about it - everything else in the whole world is out the window - I just have to 'make the distance'.

I've never tried to do a 1/2 marathon though.
  • I can quite happily run and talk to others, i was running along singing to myself as i went along. People were looking at me, but i was comfortable with the pace i was doing.

Not out of breath, and not pushing too hard.

Hill work for me this evening, boy they were hard even the first one hurt.

I managed 4 reps of a long hill with a fairly steep gradient.

I can go along with that - but could you type a text message?

Nice tempo/rhythm run tonight. First 5 miles in 34:50 and second 5 miles in 33:50 with a last mile of 6:13. Decent stats on a relatively low pulse at 110, so pleased with that.:D

Evab - You'll get a lot of benefit from that type of session, it doesnt half work your lungs. Its just the achilles that you have to be careful with - as long as they only feel sore and not strained you're on the right side of safe.:D:D

Simply - Sorry, dont know how I missed those.:o

    Nice run Rich.

Nothing in particular was painful just me whole body! Definitely worked my lungs too :-)
  • Evening everyone,

Bit of a sore knee today after yesterday's GNR - absolutely amazing experience, loved it - even if it was stupidly expensive! Why don't they save booking the Red Arrows and just charge us £20?!

Anyway, for my first half marathon considering I'd never run before February I'm chuffed with my time of 2:04.07 (9.28/mile) - splits of:
    5k - 28:36
    10k - 57:00 (my Manchester 10k was 56.59 back in May)
    15k - 1:27.00
Age Group and Gender pos. 5211

One thing that bugged me was the "10 mile" BUPA boost point was a good 1/4 mile at least before the actual 10m marker! I thought I'd done well when I got there at about 1hr24 and then saw the mile marker a good few minutes later I was a bit annoyed....

Got my eyes on the Kilomathon next March - 16.2miles would be a nice step up from the half and with *only* 8500 entrants it might be a bit less congested than the previous Great Runs.

Lancaster (my local) half on 8th October which I'd love to do but unfortunately it's the first Sunday after I return from an AI holiday in Egypt and I'm bu**ered if I'm going on a relaxing holiday only to eat sensibly and not drink! Maybe next year....
  • Simply - panic not on the inability to swim. I'm sure I managed to rescue a brick in my pyjamas when I was at school. So if you do fall in, be aware I'll have to pop home to get the right clothing first, and then find a brick to lob in otherwise I won't know what I am searching for... :rotfl:

k_bagpuss - loved the write up and bank_of_slate and alias - great photos.

Did my run today - 4.5 miles in 42:33 (9:27/mile). Felt wrong doing so few miles! Nice and comfortable, if a little warm, rather unexpectedly given the forecast. Definately mid-twenties at lunchtime today with hardly any wind.

Total for the week = 4.5 miles.
