  • My legs ache today, cant think why ;)

Report will appear tomorrow night as i cant be bothered today (well i'm at work soon) and am working daytime tomorrow. Did remember i stuck the route down fr the half 2 years ago on goodrunguide so here is what i stuck up on RW.

Had a look at my goodrunguide account and when i did the half 2 yeas ago the route still sits in my saved routes folder. It was the other way round and also had a little loop through the holiday camp just before chapel stile which is covered by a different start point i think. Has a climb rate of 23 which is metres per mile. DVM merely has 11 wink_smiley.gif Heck my 10 mile loop up here is 18.

Important stuff is DVM measured in as 26.33 miles with a flat equivalent of 27.45 miles, mostly down to that big climb you do twice. The langdale half is down as 13.19 miles with a flat equivalent of 14.34 miles which doubling up to marathon length means easily oer 28 miles.
Oh my legs hurt too wink_smiley.gif

Naturally i was talking to someone who would know DVM is dartmoor vale marathon down in Newton Abbot in devon but the figures are interesting. ROughly 300m climb per lap. I have the route on mapmyrun and the link will be in the report

    13:33:48

I think the final one is some kind of error obviously but :eek::eek::eek:

I would say so - the poor chap did 1:33:48! I get the feeling he wont be looking on page 1880 for his result!:p

Its interesting how all the reports and the GNR website all talk about 54,000 runners and yet there are only 37,599 results.

16,500 is a lot of 'runners' to go missing in action.:p

Or could it be that around a third of those who have deprived others of a place and 'have just as much right to be there as anyone else cos I've paid my entry fee' simply cant be bothered to turn up in the first place and/or finish the thing!

There also seems to be a big disparity between the official version of events and the numerous tales on RW of collapsed runners, oxygen masks, CPR treatment etc etc. Even from my own observations I feared the worst so I'm suspecting there's a little 'news suppression' going on somewhere!

Indeed it has - so you've got until about August next year to get under 3:45 and book your place for 2011!

And your interval training is already on track;)..(well its not, its on the roads...but you know what I mean:p)

Edit : It does seem a HUGE difference of 45 minutes between men and women in the Open Age bracket. There's no actual justification for that in physiologocal terms, just that the strength in depth in the women's event is even worse than the mens.

Now I wonder why they're having these problems. It doesnt take Einstein - they cant get people in the sections of the field that they go out of their way to make unwelcome. Idiots!

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

No problems there - I'm not even entering another marathon until I am sure I can run under 4 hours...

And to be absolutely sure of 4 hours I'll need to be near 3:40 anyway :D:D

    Nice pics Linda, well done!

Some people probably took ages as they were too busy texting on their mobile phones, saw loads whilst watching the run!

Well I got beaten (by a loooong way) by a man dressed as a smoothie

I beat batman, robin, dennis the menance and scooby doo though ;)

Scooby Doo finished around the same time as I did.
I did beat the Loch Ness Monster though! (just )

Well me and my sis witnessed Iphone roadkill at the start!
A chap next to us dropped his very expensive looking iphone which hit the deck, split into it's various sections and was immediately crunched under the feet of the people behind, he was fiddling around with it in his hand (idiot!).

There were loads of people with ipods & mp3 players in but I'm glad I didn't use mine, I would have missed out on so much if I'd switched myself off and zoned out to music.
