But seriously they should make everyone in fancy dress start right at the back. Imagine the shame of being over taken by a panto horse running backwards .
I wish I had thought of taking note of that guys number who started at a sprint I'm wondering how long he kept it up and where he finished.:staradmin5k - 00:27:46:staradmin 10k - 00:57.03:staradminHalf - 02:01:15:staradmin5M - 00:44:07:staradmin0 -
Well I got beaten (by a loooong way) by a man dressed as a smoothie

I thought the giraffe was head and shoulders above the rest.;)
Although, I have to say that Nell McAndrew doesnt do herself any favours by running in fancy dress, as Superwoman last year and something 'strange and pink' this year.
The masses watching just see her as another of the jokers when, in actual fact, she's performing close to elite level with a very impressive 1:27:57, with splits of : 5K 19:37, 10K 40:39, 15K 1:01:30, yesterday!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

If I spent as much time training as I do looking for races and worrying about whether I might be able to do them/fit them into my schedule. I would be doing sub 3hr marathons. :rotfl:
yeah right!:staradmin5k - 00:27:46:staradmin 10k - 00:57.03:staradminHalf - 02:01:15:staradmin5M - 00:44:07:staradmin0 -
The commentators said that Nell could have been an elite athlete too, nevermind she'll have to be content with being the original Lara Croft!0

OMG! I can't really imagine running today! My butt and my quads are aching, as are the tops of my ankles! (not sure what thats with to be honest - new shoes needed maybe? Mine are 16 months old now)
I was feeling quite nervous yesterday, and from the gun going off at 10:40 we (bank of slate and I) got to the start line at 11. We were back in Pen G. Unfortunately we missed the red arrows going over the Tyne Bridge; we were still under the underpass then doing the "Oggy Oggy Oggy" bit but we heard them going over. We ran together until around mile 4. Linda had got nicely into her stride but I just wasn't able to keep up so gradually I fell back. Ironically we were never that far apart until the 15K mark! Just goes to show how important training is! Even though I know the area well and have driven around those roads dozens of times it wasn't until I did the race you realise just how many hills there are! And the other thing was the heat - I'd done hardly any running outside in the sun and had used the treadmill in the air conditioned gym instead this summer so lesson 2 learned there!
My run seams to be barely faster than some people were walking. I took the Nike plus with me and it said my average pace was 13.26mins per mile, although I did start it "recording" when the gun went off as I was interested to see how far we actually did including the walk/jog to the start line.
I made the most of the showers on the course and they were really refreshing! As were the firemans hose and the hoses of the locals from miles 9 to 11. Like Alias I too had to make use of the loo facilities en route - no point trying to make the journey more uncomfortable than necessary! I was between 11 and 12 when the red arrows started their second display and managed to see some of it as I passed mile marker 12 on the sea front. The last mile did seem rather long, and I was glad to get over the last climb of the day and then see the finish line in the distance. I said I wanted to finish in under 3 hours and predicted 2hrs 50 based on my training so considering the heat I wasn't far off. My OH did it in 1hr 47 so he had a bit of hanging around at the end waiting for me.
I will definately enter it next year - it's the 30th in 2010 and all in all it was a really enjoyable experience - even the huge queue for the ferry at the end didn't dampen out spirits!Good wine needs to breathe, if it stops breathing try mouth to mouth.0 -
Well done kb, a great benchmark for you now - you've already seen where you can improve so build on that for the next one!0
