DFW running club mark 3!! ALL ARE WELCOME!!

Hmm...I have the very great fortune to live just across the road from a gorgeous running track. Some evenings I see people training there and I searched for who they are on the net (they are an athletics club). I e-mailed asking if novices were allowed and they said yes, so I'm supposed to go tonight. I've seen how very fit some of the people coming out of there look in their nice professional running kits and I am giong to feel very out of place as a wobbly person in jogging bottoms and a hoodie. I know everyone has to start somewhere, but I doubt I could get round the track once at a jog at the minnute, so I'm going to feel a right twit. Someone tell me it will be ok and that I won't make quite that much of a fool of myself: I's supposed to go tonight! :eek:Please call me 'Pickle'

It'll be OK Pickle - go for it!Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0

Get well soon Alias - sounds nasty.
Pickle - give it a go you've nothing to lose, everyone has to start somewhere and they probably had the same doubts you do. Hope you enjoy it when you are there.
Red - the trial British Military Fitness class sounds very scary! :eek:
BJ - When Becky/rich suggested the 8m for me I nearly fell off my chair :eek: but take it slow and steady and you can do it. (I spent all last week worrying about it for no good reason :rolleyes:)
I am struggling this week to get my runs in, weekend run is fine as OH is home for the boys but I daren't try going again with baby in pram as he is teething and so grumpy that I don't think I would get very far like last week. Also need to fit it between my 5 exercise classes arrgghhhh (anyone who knew the old me at 16st 9lb wouldn't believe the amout of exercise I love doing now!)Following :money: to keep us debt free :j0 -
I completely agree with Hannah and Red, Pickle - even if you are rubbish its just a point to start from - imagine yourself looking back in a year at the progress you've made - you cant do that if you dont start somewhere0

Any new races that need adding/amending - let me know and I'll make the necessary changes!
Black = Completed Races.
Blue = Planned Races.
The blue figures next to the results are the WAVA age grading percentage followed by the relevant world record to which the time is being compared.
With age grading everyone is on an equal footing - the score takes out any advantage/disadvantage due to age and any advantage/disadvantage due to being male/female.
So whatever your age or sex if you score 52% it is better than another person's 51% regardless of their age/sex.
So what are the scores? They are quite simply a measure of your performance compared to the person who holds the world record for that distance in your age group and of your gender.
Clearly some of the WRs are out of date, but there has to be a stable basis on which to calculate otherwise the gradings would need to be re-computed every time a WR changes.
So, in simple terms your WAVA rating is:
Your time is 4 x World Record 25.00%
Your time is 2 x World Record 50.00%
Your time is 1.5 x World Record 66.67%
Your time is 1.25 x World Record 80.00%

I've been having a thought about racing - I am not enjoying it at the moment...for a number of reasons - weather, stomach bugs, not being as fit as I was before...
Anyway, so I am going to run my two free halfs and parkruns but Rich can you take off all other races till the end of the year please? I am going to solidly train without worrying about races and try to get back my fitness in time for Blackpool in April next year, I think I've done too many in too short a time which has just interupted my training and made me less fit than I would be without them...

Thats a fair point - you can only recognise that point yourself so a little break is probably a decent idea.
You will, however, have got a good deal stronger from having ploughed through several races in quick succession.:D
My own reflections re yesterday have pinpointed the reason for not getting a decent time completely down to the lack of anyone to race against. I'm quite sure now that the 'heaviness' in the thighs was more imagined than real as at the 17 mile mark I had already pretty much been alone for 12 miles and faced another 9 mile solo run to get home in 3:12-3:15 maybe.
Running a 3:00 marathon in those circumstances was out of the question, but that is exactly what I had trained for, so there was no adrenalin or enthusiasm for gritting out a 3:15 - and you have to have a clear reason for putting yourself through the mill to the extent that that last 9 miles would have required.
If you're not on target for what you want to achieve at the 18-20 mile mark in a marathon dropping out at that point leaves very little damage compared to doing the whole thing, that last 10K is where the bulk of the muscle tearing happens as everything gets tired.
All in all, quite happy that nothing really went wrong.........................:D:D:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Simply I think Rich is right - you will be ready, you just had a bad race, but if you want to drop out at 20 miles (or set off as if you are going to) then thats a great training lesson
Thanks Becky; I think on reflection that I was just feeling hot and fed up after yesterday's race. I'm definitely not going to give up on Abingdon after all the training I've done (not to mention all the 05.30 starts) so I'll give it a go and if I only run to 20 miles so be it.
Now, more advice from the experts please if I may be so bold
My training schedule says 13 miles on Sunday 4 October and I've managed to locate a half marathon in Somerset on that day. I thought that I might enter and use it as a training run - with the advantage that I get to run with others. What do you think??

knock your self out, as long you know you can resist the temtation of raceing the others.. dont think your legs would thank you for a PB in the 1/2 14 days before a full marathon mind.
