It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

Yeah so I was struggling from about mile 4 - did 4 miles at a comfortable 9:15/mile pace - was about to starting speeding up a bit when starting feeling really rough - it didnt clear so I decided to treat the race as a training run and just try to get through it - bumped in Rich at mile 12.75 on 2:10 and decided not to run through the finish to record my pw of approx. 2:13

Anyway - its all good - just the gremlins affecting performance and am happy that the 9:15 pace wasnt difficult at all :D

Roll on next week - when hopefully my gremlins will have been destroyed ;)
  • Another couple of indicators of today's conditions are that

    a) the winner's time was looking as though it wouldnt be much under 3 hours and

    b) there was a young man, who looked reasonable fit, collapsed on the half marathon course - police and ambulance were responding as we went past.

Well the half is over, fairly comfortable at 9.56/mile (awaiting official result- my garmin made the route 13.25 miles. Mum and I chatted the whole route, being told off once by an official who stated that we were meant to be racing! but i'm pleased with that its a pb for me.
Sorry your runs didn't go quite to plan Becky and Rich- great that you are both taking positives from them- hope the ice cream was good :-) good luck for next week Becky :-)

  • Cumberland Ale 10 mile

Didn't wake up til 9:30, 90 mins before the race. Up, brekkie, then retrieve cat from the front before the silly sod got run over. Change into running gear, its a local race, then off to the race. Collect number then head over to the race start and some loitering in the sun. Had intended to take it easy being i did 7 miles friday and 10 miles yesterday so the legs were tired already. Pleased with the time though.

    Mile splits

    9:27
    9:21
    9:51
9:15 steep drop down to river
    10:38 lazy mile that updulates
    9:03
10:20 climb back up from river
    8:39
    9:02
    7:46 !!!! !!!!!! i wasn't pushing hard at all
    0:18 for last 0.04 @ 7:46 pace

    Total 1:33:46 for 10.04 miles @ 9:20 pace

Very interesting split time for mile 10 as although its pretty much downhill all the way (well there is a short uphill bit) i wasn't running that hard. Was merely following a couple of runners with no intention of speeding up. I knew i could of gone faster if i wanted but on a lot of mileage in the last few days couldn't be bothered.

Rich - Bad luck on the heat scuppering your race, twas rather hot out today wasn't it and my race never started till 11.

  • Uk - Another good 16 miles under the belt. Its certainly paying off getting out early, not normally something we have to consider in September.

KMS - Good solid pace there. Some of the variations in pace can easily be explained by inaccuracies in the GPS data so you may have been more consistent than the evidence suggests. Good 3 day mileage there.

Tq - tut, tut:p It takes some doing to get a telling off, was probably concerned about how much energy you were wasting.;) Congratulations on the PB - always a great feeling!:D:D

TBH... it was very cold all the way round this morning.

might even have to brake out the running tights soon.... that will be a treat for the world.

Only if you throw in a few pirouettes on your way round the course!

  • Rich - Er no this is Cumbria that variation is down to the ups and downs ;) This race can only be described as fliping hilly (or at least similarly starting words ;))

Elevation chart from last years outing. A few bumps in it. +645/-651 foot for last years according to Sporttracks which is pretty accurate. Not bad for a 10 mile race. Loch Ness is +748/-1449 in comparison
