    Hi Alias,

I would just relax and try to enjoy I always run my best times then anyway - even if the start is congested you should be able to pick up some pace in the later miles (even if you have weave a little!) :D

Re: weight - it does but you have to accept that you will add muscle, the weight loss happens quite slowly if you are already reasonably fit and light - by they way 68 kgs!!!! Thats only 8 more than me!!!!

red - I was out early again this morning too; it was quite chilly wasn't it?? Made a nice change though. ;)

evab and Alias - sounds like you're both having tough times at the moment. Hope it soon improves.

kms - 100 miles? It will be interesting following your training log

As for poorbabe - drinking on a school night? :naughty: (I'm only jealous; had to stop that years ago - old age is a wonderful thing ;))

  • I weighed myself for the first time in ages yesterday and considering I've not been running anything like as much and have not been watching what I've been eating at all.. I've lost about 4lb!

  • Another slightly mad week so far :( No idea where it has gone again. Will try and catch up with the thread again tomorrow. As I have a twestival tonight which is [STRIKE]unfortunately[/STRIKE] being held in a cocktail bar... (on a school night as well - rarity these days)!

Monday 7th - 6 miles today in about 56-57 minutes, so a pace around 9:24(ish)*
Tuesday 8th - 6 miles in 58:08 (9:41/mile) - felt like hard work, the unexpected 28 degrees may not have helped
Thursday 10th - 6 miles in 56:41 (9:26/mile) - same HR as Tuesday, far faster!

    * Slight technical error - the garmin wasn't charged (though I had had it on its cradle over the weekend, must not have seated it right) and I didn't realise until I was about to run! Time based on clock on phone (with no seconds)! Not too bad a run given I screwed the pace up and went out too fast so mile 3 was probably quite slow as a consequence. The garmin is really useful to me for early pacing more than anything else I think.

Total for the week = 18 miles

The aim is a LSR of about half distance on Saturday.

I'd appreciate some advice on my taper though, if anyone is willing? My half is a fortnight on Sunday and I currently run around 18 miles in the week over 3 days, usually Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, with my long run of 10-15 miles on a Saturday. No explicit hill or speed runs, though there are various hills in all my runs, and I sometimes do tempo style runs, or try and tun fast at the end. How best should I reduce that over the next two weeks in terms of mileage, pace, both (or neither!)?

And just cos I think this running photo is great - http://1x.com/photo/26301/

Well make the weekend before your last long run - say about 10-13 miles or so...remove any pacey runs and do everything else as slowly as possible - obivously dont run the long run the day before the race but a few miles wont hurt...just take everything down a notch on the pace wise and then you'll be itching to run fast by the race :D
  • Thanks for the advice becky :D

Seems there was some great racing at the weekend; Mascott, UK, gingerscot, rich :)

Simply, poorbabe - I'd also agree that my alcohol tolerance has (or appears to have) gone down since I've been running!

Evab - hope the things irking you are sorted out ASAP.

Rich - thanks for that advice on splitting the race into thirds - most useful.
  • 100 miles within 27 hours from Ilfracombe to Plymouth via the route 27 cycle way. http://www.route27.co.uk/the-devon-100.html has a routh map of the route there too although the section used heading south past Tavistock isn't known just yet.

Yes the training could be erm interesting. I'm intending to do some overnight run/walk sessions being there will be a hefty chunk done overnight.

http://www.trailrunevents.com/ul/schedule-100m.htm probably use that as a base for my training plan allowing for a few long races (looking at a off road 40 miler 3 weeks before as well as a 55 mile Glasgow to Edinburgh race in early march) as well as some tweaking.

Wow sounds mad Kms - good luck

Was straining at the leash tonight so rather than leave my best runs in training (what me never ;)) I decided to cut out my loops and just run home...anyway 3 miles in 26.56 8:58 mins/mile (and I was getting faster *rolls eyes*). I hope it bodes well for the weekend - going to train on Sat and then a short warm-up on Sunday and that'll be it now :D

Hi all. Nothing to report. Just wanted to say I'm still around and running. Not this morning though, as I'm taking part in an intra-company 5-a-side footie tournament tonight for charidee. Hope you're all well. Good luck for the various runs this weekend.
