Yep for Boston qualifying is a must - thought you knew that :D I cant neter though because they only do full times and not halfs (which are much easier to get at ;))

All those who want to run but cant just enter NY mara instead ;)

Nope, not aware of that at all - but then again I've never had it as a target or looked into it before!

A nice story in the states on Monday - An unknown 25 year old runner called Brett Gotcher has been training himself as well as he can but unable to race due to living below the poverty line so not being able to afford to travel or pay entry fees. He earns $8,000 a year working 20 hours in a print shop.

He was invited to join Greg McMillan's (of the McMillan calculator fame) training group at altitude in Flagstaff, Arizona to see if that would help him progress.

Well, on Monday he won the US National Championship 20K (just short of a half marathon) in 58:57. As a result he won a prize of $8,000, which for a guy with no sponsorship and an annual salary of the same amount, was described by himself as 'life changing'.

He will now be competing in the World Half Marathon championships in Birmingham next month.

I get the feeling he may get a shoe deal and other sponsorship endorsements now.........

  • There's jam? Where's the jam? :D

Didn't get a chance to run last night so forced myself out of bed this morning - and it was a real effort, but lovely once I got out there, bit chilly but nice and bright, really cheered me up! Just 2.7 miles but it's really set me up for the day :j

Evab, hope everything improves soon x

  • Nice one, Red - those early morning runs do set you off well dont they?:D

Its just the pleasant sleepiness that kicks in at about 11am which has you reaching for the pillows which kind of scuppers the upbeat start....:p

  • Morning everyone!

Red - :T I tried to do that this morning but, having now confirmed that alcohol and running don't mix, I shelved that idea and will now run this evening

KMStuart - you doing a 100 mile event  Over how many days?

    Simply :j

UK - I can just about handle it if there's sufficient food to soak it up but the canapes weren't enough, by any means. Still, it was an enjoyable evening

The brain can't cope now so I'm off to drink some water and get back to work.

Happy Thursday running for anybody heading out at some point today :j

  • Im still around, been on nights this week. Moving onto long days tomorrow so nice 4-30am wakeups to be ready to go at work for 6am. A nice 12 1/2 hours shift for the next 7 days, then a nice 1hr drive home.

Went out on tuesday for a planned run of something maybe 6-8-10miles, wimped out at mile 4.5 with too much sweat, was warm.

Planned to go out tonight when its cooler, then sunday, then wednesday ishy as the GNR is in 10 days time.

I really, really feel like ive not put enough into this. Im 10days away and struggle to output anything more than 8miles on a run, sometimes i can fire through over the 13.5miles distance and sometimes fail at 4miles like above. I tell myself that im resting myself for the races, but i feel that i need to be out there running 13-14miles every other day.

I know my planned <2hrs time is well gone, due to the start & 12th mile backlogs. So its probably looking like 2hrs 20mins with the 12th mile walkers etc.

Maybe i should just enjoy the event, and go for under 2hrs in my next half marathon...

On the positive note, the charity thing has really started to take off. Ive got about £58 from work, £70 from mums work (a roadside cafe) and £150 from family, then about another £80 from other random people from MSE & other online forums.

I have a guy from the paper ringing me back today about an article in the paper and it looks like we'll be sending something off to the BBC as they requested it.

If you dont try, you'll never know..

Oh, weighed myself yesterday. Was a little upset. Come in at 75kgs, now i was 68kgs in April this year. I know that muscle weighs more than fat, and i can see that my legs are HUGE at the minute...

I thought all this running was ment to make you lose weight...
