But 1:19 on a training run is absolutely fine if you're looking to race at 1:10 - so no problems there!
A short, sharp northern answer? Did it end in 'cough'?:pGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

What a difference a week makesThat was a nice relaxed run and I've proved to myself that I can run 20 miles - last week's performance had knocked my confidence but that's been dealt with now. :T
I hope your 18 miles has gone well poorbabe.
Oh dear, no choccie for Uk today - he's been too lazy!!!:rotfl:;)

(we havent been out yet as we decided to watch the grand prix)

Hi All :T
UKevas - you actually had a lie-in on a Sunday. I am shocked :rotfl:
Simply - :T
Becky - The Grand Prix is not a patch on running 16 miles. Step away from the tv and get to it
Smeft - good going
Mascot - maybe I'll see you at the next Park Run. Somehow I think I'm back there on Saturday
Well I did it. 18 miles in 3 hours and I didn't fade like I did a few weeks ago. Admittedly I didn't do the run to my training plan as I didn't think I could sustain a 9:37 pace all the way through. I had lulls when I crawled and highs when I felt I could run forever , maybe this training lark really does some good then :rotfl:
I did run around Richmond Park too, along the Tamsin Trail which I discovered isn't hilly, but did have 2 little 'gradients' that I struggled with. I eventually worked out that sticking to the path alongside the road is where the hills are, so I'll be back there next week, with inhaler and the phone number of the nearest hospital :rotfl:
Doesn't look like Sis and I will be heading to Notting Hill after all as it's closer to 3pm and I'm still at home (got in at 1.50pm). I did leave her a message but she's not called me back  so I guess a trip to my local Primark is in order instead
Enjoy the rest of the long weekend folks. Beer/wine and angel cake are included in my post-run menu for the rest of today :T:T:beer:The 365 Day 1p Challenge 2025. Member #420 -
I feel disappointed today,
After comfortably completing my 8 mile (2 circuits) run on Friday I wanted to go for 12 miles (3 circuits) today but my head just wasn't in it.
I couldn't 'sink into' a pace so I ended up just doing 2 circuits - 8 miles and then going for a swim.
I didn't want to force myself to do the full 12, I need to try it again when I'm on a good one.
...Linda xxIt's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0 -
Bank_of_slate. Don't worry, there's always next time. Besides you did 2/3 of it plus a swim, surely the equivalent of?
Just chalk it down to an off-day and enjoy the rest of SundayThe 365 Day 1p Challenge 2025. Member #420 -
Woohoo a new PW
Yes you read that right i got a PW.
Not the greatest of runs today but at least i just about managed to go sub 60 for this 10k. Had a stitch from km 2 too oh around km 8 off and on. Although i think part of it is actually a mior tweak to my stomache muscle.
Couple of cattle grids to cross on this route which have matting on but that didn't stop me stumbling quite badly due to tripping by landing in just the right way that by toes dip between the cross bars and catch as i go forwards.
Wobbled a fair bit and damn near fell over, bang knees togeather (yeah i said ouch here honest) and tweaked my stomache muscle be twisting too i think. Nothing too bad hurting at the moment bar my legs from the run itself.
Once i've finished removing the new kitchen worktop from in front of the boiler pipes i'll be able to run the bath being its effectivly cut off the water pipe into the boiler. If the boiler didn't have a leak somewhere it would not be a problem as once charged up the pressure would remain.
Anyway back to the race. Due to the stitch and acheing stomache muscles there was a relativly high amount of walking in places, mostly on the up hills, to avoid the pain. The route it self was start in Bitts Park then head towards the Sands Centre like the old cumbrian run half route but instead of going round the Sands centre it was under Eden bridge then straight onto the bridge.
Over the bridge and along the cumbrian route into Rickerby park the up to Linstock. Here at the roundabout it was a left turn and back to Carlisle along the Brampton road, along the Carlisle to Brampton 10 mile race route. Pretty easy running all of it under normal circumstances. Oddly once i hit the 5 mile marker and got over the little hill there the drop down back over Eden bridge had the speed back up and i managed to carry on at a faster rate to the finish.
Splits i cant be bothered with as none of them were overly good bar the first mile in 8:19 which was roughly where i wanted to be at that point.
Total time 59:36 distance 6.30 miles @ 9:28 pace which isn't to bad considering the amout of walking. A whole 32 seconds slower than my first ever 10k race 2 years ago.
Hopefully its like Easter time when i did a race on Easter Saturday 5.45 miles in 52:53 @ 9:42 pace followed by on the wednesday afterwards a 5.36 mile race in 44:36 @ 8:19 pace. Not so sure this time as i still have no speed in the legs and there is less days rest between races. In fact i'm off to Whitley bay for a 8 mile NE fetchie run tomorrow.Debt free Nerd number 1122 LBM Jan 2009 Debt @ LBM £40,086.88 (14/01/09)

Simply and Poorbabe - Fantastic efforts, you're both getting mentally on top of the distances to the point where you know when you set off that you're going to complete the session. Thats a world of improvement from when you start out full of doubts about whether you'll ever be able to run those sort of distances. Great to see!:D
KMS and Bank_Of_Slate - Its the old swings and roundabouts, the good runs will be just around the corner as sure as eggs is eggs!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
