Hi HWGA nice to see you back :D

No worries - running comes on its own and now you have motivation of an LM place ;)

Okay so you have 10 months to get fit - it is possible I started in June last year and ran FLM in April this year, however, it might be tough - there's no way around this 26 miles is a long way to run, before we can do a plan you'll need to be realistic about how much time you have to train - that should inform what time you'd like to do - we can then draw you a plan to get you running up to 10k and once you get there we can ramp up to marathon over 6-8 months :D

I would think you will need to start with 3-4 days a week - more if you can - of very short runs with a long walk tagged on the end - say map out 4 miles and run what you can very slowly and walk the rest - then let us know how far you are getting after 4 weeks or so and we'll do you a 10k plan :D

If you can get to running the whole 4 miles by then that will be a good start but dont pressurise yourself too much and dont worry about times :D

Well, as you know, I'm just a walker reaLLY AND ONLY HAVE 2HRS OFF A DAY, WORKING 24/7 SO i DON'T GET MUCH TIME AND SOMETIMES CAN'T BE BLOTHERED TO EV EN GO OUT AS MR ANS MRS TIRE me out (sorry hit caps lock by mistake, blooming keyboard, new comp) If at any time it looks like I'm shouting, then it will be this *****comp.

I will prob walk most of the LM but will be happy just to get around.
I can run on treadmill but not for too long and not too fast, always think I might shoot off the back of the **** thing:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
But when I try outside can't co-ordinate my breathing and running doh

Thanks for replying, I will take your advice if I can:T

HWGA - yeah I remember you work A LOT - in that case just be realistic about what you can achieve and see how you get on - we can work from there and build up - luckily you've got loads of time :D

  • A few days into the third week of my 10K training schedule and it's going OK... i think. I've been doing 3 or 4K runs 3 times a week and then hitting a longer distance on sundays when I have more time. I managed 7K last Sunday so I'm quite pleased with that (my longest distance without stopping to date). I had planned to get up to 10K gradually over 8 weeks but if I can manage 7K in week 3 then I might get there sooner than anticipated :)

But (why is there always a 'but'?!) since Sunday I've been feeling the effects of the long run. My legs are feeling achey and my motivation appears to be dwindling a little. I had expected to feel really great after my 7K and excited to hit the treadmill again the next day, but instead I felt tired and lethargic  I spent 45mins at the gym yesterday but didn't run, and my scheduled 4K for tonight is looking a bit unlikely too. Here's hoping I can pick myself up again and stay on track. I've worked hard to get to this point and I don't want to let it just slip away.

I have to agree with becky here "get outside" it will be good for you and yest there is a difference in running outside than the treadmill!!

I am into my 4th week of my 10k training plan and the 4th week of me starting back to running after 6-7 years of doing nothing and I have been outside from the 3rd week!!

First 2 weeks I got myself to the 5k mark on the treadmill (at home) at a incline but when I got out on the roads it is a different ball game!! Far better feeling!!

If you read my previous post from this morning I did 3.7 miles last night and yes my legs are a bit sore but I am hoping to get out tonight again for the same distance - feeling good!!

Try outside then let us know how you get on!!!

Miss_cupcake - I really think you should try some running outside - a bit of change of scenery might get you back into it a little :D

But also running 5 days a week is tough on your body so if its telling you to take a rest then do it - you'll be back with renewed enthusiasm before you know it :D

I do try to do atleast 1 outdoor run a week, and for some reason I find it easier than the treadmill (isn't is supposed to be the other way around?!) but I think that's because I can enjoy the fresh air and scenery and not have to look at those dreaded digital numbers sloooowly ticking away in front of me! I'll try an outdoor 4K tonight me thinks.
