I've paid £50 for a race this year, well the race itself is next year, but to me its worth it as its only 50p a mile. Many of the long distane ultras are around the £50 mark although certain companies do 40-50 mile races and charge the same amount and then give you !!!!!! all during and after wards. Well i say !!!!!! all i beliee you get some water during and a few things at the end ;)

I think its about £50-60 for GUCR which at 145 miles is a bargain.

GNR will be £50 soon enough not far off now i think. Thats a big rip off IMO you dont exactly get £50 worth of event. I think London mara is overpriced too but being the chances of running it are only once every 6 years (Via 5 strikes and get a place policy) most likely i think i can live with it.

Its a fair point, KMS...the GNR at £3/mile sure is an expensive way to get around. (Not taking into account the cost of the running shoes etc....).

Over the entire year I reckon my race entry fees equate to about 50p/mile or so....I can live with that.

I've not ran since my 8 miles on Sunday. I rested Monday and was still a bit achey in my quads yesterday so I decided to do an hours Body Combat instead last night, and now muscles I didn't know I had are achey! lol! So may run later today or might leave it until tomorrow. The gym I go to are running some masterclass sessions on Saturday where 1 person teaches the class and another 3 instructors wander around checking your technique. I've booked in for 1 hour Body Pump followed by 1 hour Body Combat. I'm hoping by doing other things aswell as running will help me improve my fitness and therefore help me improve on my current slow minutes per mile!

Thanks for the offer red.. :)

But at £60 im not that keen... and becky it was part of the "prize" you won a place "which you then had to pay for then pay a £20 donation to charity while you are at it" Crazy i know...............i seen the comp but decided against entering because of the ruels... i still hold out hope for a last min bargin on entry :D

While at the gigs mind i was more bothered about people standing on my toes during the jumping about... was thinking OMG what if i brake a toe and no marathon.. :D

still a bit blooded and sore but nothing to bad :)

Sorry forgot to come back on yesterday! No worries, just thought I'd ask (I'm still sure I only entered the trainers comp!).. £60 is ridiculous, especially if it was cheaper than that before, I guess you are meant to feel very privileged that they are letting you have the chance to enter  Fingers crossed you get a last minute bargain!

  • Don't think up to £32 is overpriced for the VLM - although better value if you don't have to pay £50+ for trains to London, pay for hotels etc!

The Paris marathon is in the £50 area for entry, either Rotterdam or Hamburg is closer to £60, and NYC is around £120.

Marathons such as Loch Ness and Edinburgh are more costly than London too, although Loch Ness very good and far easier to run in.

The prices certainly don't stop people entering though. £42? for the GNR and they could possibly double to 50,000 runners every year even at that price - suppose to a lot of people it's no worse than paying loads to go to Alton Towers and get on 4 rides all day, or a night out where you can easily spend £50-100 on eating and drinking.

I dont mind paying a lot for a race like New York or London if it means that the race is sustainable without having to sell lots of places to charities, but I think BUPA races for example are very expensive in order to put off regular runners (since first timers are more likely to raise money for charities)...you can see this by the results curve being much lower down than usual (i.e. there are more slower runners).

I didnt pay for my GNR, but with a predicted time of 1:50 I am in pen C (pen A is for elites). The pen letters go up to K I think - not sure how just sub 2 hours counts as a fast time in anyone's book but BUPA's really, but there you go...

    I'm in pen F - honestly can't remember what I put down as my predicted time as back then A) I didn't have a clue; and B) I wasn't expecting to get a place!:rotfl:

My OH is in Pen B

    Hiya all

This is a quickie as I'm starving!! My plans for a lunchtime run has been scrapped because of unexpected workload and the fact that the staff canteen has my fave food on the menu today, which means I need to get down there by 1.30 if I want some :D

I'll have to run tonight instead and I was looking forward to (another) relaxing evening

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.
