It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

    Hello UK :D

Sounds like a good weekend run Chick. And 1Hannah - good steady progress. That's the way to go.

beer tins - it is only hydrating post LSRs I have an issue with. Too much liquid when I get back fills me up and then I don't want to eat (sounds great, not good for recovery), and always struggle to drink more :rolleyes:

    Get well soon Simply _pale_

Bike ride was good thanks evab - four more tubs of blackberries along the way between us (and an arm scratched to ...)!

I got out today and did my usual Monday 6 miler in 57:57 (9:38/mile). Not too bad considering the weekend running and cycling exertions. I can always feel the cycling in the run the day after so I'll have to not do any cycling nearer the half.

Total for the week = 6 miles

Wow its quiet on here! Becky and Rich must be otherwise engaged.... ;)

Went out tonight to tackle some hills. I am determined not to let hills get the better of me so I decided to get stuck in and do some hill-specific training. There is a quite steep hill about 200m long a mile and a half away from my home so I ran slowly there as a warm up, then did a session where I ran up the hill, jogged back down and walked around for 30 seconds before repeating. I repeated this 10 times. Unfortunately I decided to take a different route home and got hopelessly lost in a nearby housing estate where all the roads look the same. :o I ended up doing just over 6 miles in total, but I thought that was OK for a first hill session.

To be honest, I enjoyed it more than I expected to, so I'll definitely do it again.

This week I discovered that I'm getting some aches and pains on the side of my foot from my small toe to the arch, when I was running yesterday I concentrated on how my foot lands and I land quite balanced on my heel but I push off from the side of my foot where the aches have been so some rotation of the foot. Some padding needed there especially for long runs!

I didn't run today or all weekend as have had same problem- does it only hurt when you are running?- any advice? Feeling twitchy not having run for so long, going to attempt run tommorrow and see what happens- fingers crossed.
1Hannah well done on your runs, stick with it you are progressing really well (much faster than I did :))
Sorry the heat was a problem for so many of you- I'm really hoping for a cool day for marathon (and half for that matter) Hope the cooler weather we are having hear now helps.
beer tins- so impressed with support for OH my hubbie was rubbish, couldn't manage to make him self run slower (he also prefers running alone) however finding my times quicker than his on average now which is great:D

Yep has only been after 13m run but was still painful on Friday not too bad whilst running on Saturday. Dh said to tape it up rather than padding on long runs. Hoping this works otherwise I'm going to go to a running shop in Chester for gait analysis and advice when I get a new pair of trainers soon.

Well, there were two women about half-way up the hill discussing one of their driveways (it looked like it had been resurfaced) and they did give me a couple of funny looks, but my running club uses this hill regularly as a hill session as it is sort of a dead-end and is therefore mostly traffic-free. About 10 years ago the road was cut off by a new by-pass so it just ends quite abruptly with a fence and the embankment for the by-pass.

I think the residents must be quite used to it by now. The thing was, there are road works at the bottom of the hill (new gas main I think) and yes, the traffic light is right at the bottom, so the drivers of the cars waiting their turn must have thought I was a bit mad! :o
