  • Well done on getting into double figures BoS - that's a great achievement :T:T

I think we all suffer from idiots tooting and shouting - I run with my ipod and have one earphone in so although I know that *encouragement* is being yelled I don't hear what it is. :D

Well done Hannah. It sounds like you're still finding it a bit of a chore? You'll start enjoying it for it's own sake after a while.

I did a very slow 1.5m with my wife yesterday, followed by a very brisk 6.7m once she stopped running. Not sure if I can count it as a "proper" 8 miler as the first 1.5 didn't really do it for me!

I didn't have any problems, but then I am obsessive about being properly hydrated. It can't be repeated often enough how important it is. I suppose my run was much shorter than many of you, so hydration wouldn't have been as much of an issue anyway.

  • Well done 1HANNAH - keep at it and it will get easier!! :D

You're very good at encouraging your wife beertins; when my OH was giving running a go I found it very difficult to run slowly enough. It's not easy is it?

Hmmm ...... I'm not sure now that hydration was my problem yesterday. I've woken up this morning with a sore throat, sniffles and a tight chest. I think a couple of rest days might be in order. :(

Didn't get on here over the weekend to update on my training. Went out Saturday am (early - well, for me :p) with a couple of friends and did 12.53 miles in 2:03.56, working out at 9:53 per mile. I'm happy enough with that though. It felt much easier than the week before when I had to go home after 3 miles, and was easier than the week before that, so I feel like I'm getting back up there with my fitness and stamina again.

Sorry to hear that dehydration/heat has been causing a problem for some people. It was cool when we set off but had warmed up considerably by the time we got back. I pity anyone setting off to race a half at 11am. It must have been very warm by then. Certainly not ideal running conditions.

I have noticed that I'm really having problems with hills. I have never really liked hills and find that they just sap the strength from my legs, so I do have a bit of a hang-up about hilly runs. I guess there isn't anything else for it except to run more hills, so I'm going out for a hill session tonight. I am in awe of Evab for going to find a steeper hill to train on. well done.

It looks like everyone is doing really well with their running, especially the newbies.

I always have to take a drink of water with me.

I bought one of those handy belts that holds a bottle of water, has a zipped pocket for keys/change and a mesh pocket for my hanky because for some reason when I start running, my nose does too!

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

Good running Chick and :o that you are in awe of my hills! Believe me I can't get away from the things so I probably do more hill training everyday than I need to but I wonder whether I'll actually be saying 'I should have done more hill prep' after the marathon!

Well done hannah good work you are already showing progress in your 3 miller :D

I hope you feel better after a couple of days rest Simply, lots of oranges for the Vit C and plenty of fluids - my childminder recommends warm lemondae with honey except I hate honey so I've never tried it!

I love running with my dh but then he's can run faster than me so I can get a good speed session if I ran with him, I hope your oh found your run good bt and well done on your 8 miles.

I hope you enjoyed your bike ride yesterday krider, sounds lovely!

Thanks, It was hard going because it was really stuffy yesterday and I was feeling a little light headed (cursed low blood pressure)

Well I do want to encourage and help her. Running slowly isn't easy, but I just forget about running for my own benefit when I'm out with her. If anything, I make her slow down when she starts speeding up, in the interest of building up her distance. I figure I should help her out and give her the (dubious!) benefit of my knowledge to help her along and try to keep her injury free. She has been very supportive of my running, after all.
