It reminds me of when I did my first half at 16 and was persuaded to do it by a lad who had just joined the army.

He told me that they ran all the time as part of their training and that he could run a half marathon in 50 minutes!

I didnt know any better at the time (t'was pre internet days after all!:p).

You can imagine my surprise when I saw him throwing his guts up on the Town Hall steps at 12 miles. I was quite happy with my 1:35 after that whereas before the race I thought it going to be incredibly embarrassing!!

Btw For all you youngsters, I was only 13 myself in 1979! So there...:p:p:p

Oh, and its interesting to note that in the WAVA table 4 out of the top 6 positions are occupied by people who've already experienced a 40th birthday! You youngsters should be getting some more training done.:rotfl:

My younger brother was saying a few weeks ago that he didn't think I could run a marathon, and yet he was impressed that I did 13 miles yesterday, young whippersnapper! Who is also a cocky army lad btw!

It would be interesting to get other people's views on this:

We have all tried talking him out of it...but in vain. I fear it will end in tears.......

Hi Rich. I read some of the posts and decided against adding to it. He's determined, I'll say that for him :D.

Had a lovely evening watch the telly. Athletics is hard work isn't it? :D I did think about running before work this morning but that was far as I got. I remember when heading out at 5.30/6am was a breeze years ago, now I just about get up in time for work (and that's during the summer!).

5 mile run this evening, so I can enjoy a glass (or two) of wine with my neighbour.

Rich, just tell them lot you are like fine wine........... (my friends just laugh when I say that though )

Hahahaha the royal foot guards always look rather bemused at me running up and down birdcage walk during my interval sessions...you'd think they would know what I was doing but all they ever seem to do is circuits round St James' as fast as they can followed by throwing up... silly boys!

He's determined okay....but to the point of foolishness. I wonder what he thinks people's motives are for talking him out of it, other than to help him?

Ah yes, but that may be true for you....I'm probably more like a bottle of old vinegar!:rotfl:
