Colleague at work has decided to enter a 10k for motivation to run (he's otherwise not that bothered). So he chooses a 10k that costs £20  and they also expect you to raise money for charity as well. And I don't think it's chip timed for that money either. All for motivation to run and not out of a desire to do something for the charity... He's a nice chap but this is just silly IMHO. Apparently the fundraising page they give you auto defaults the target to £1k too (though he was at least canny enough to edit it lower and it let him)!

Some good running Simply, 1Hannah, Becky, tq, and probably others I've forgotten so apols to you if I have.

Ah...I have a realtaed question. I've applied for a charity place in a marathon. I've said that I think I can raise £3000 for the charity, but if I can't raise the whole amount, am I personally liable to make up the rest of the amount? (When I read this, it suddenly made me think about it. It's probably not what you are meaning, but do you know the answer to that question anyway?) Thanks! ;)

It depends on the charity tbh...read anything they make you sign very carefully!!!

(for mine I was given a 'target' rather than a requirement and it was only £1000 and I was well short so just be careful...)

K-bagpuss - its likely that you 'overstretched' a little to get to 8 from your previous mileage and your body is just rebelling a bit - give it a few days and it should be better - at least today's run should have got rid of most of the stiffness :D

You're absolutely NOT liable no - but that wont stop them making you think you are.

The bottom line is that the charities are hard nosed commercial organisations no matter how worthy or heart rending the cause may be.

As such, they are paying roughly £400 for a VLM place and they intend to get a lot more than that back out of you. The likes of Cancer Research UK need to pay their £133 million admin bill before anything else. The subject has been discussed many times and quite frankly stinks but thats just my opinion - its how things are until people stop accepting charity places.

The tide is actually starting to turn and charities are starting to get left with expensive places that they cant do anything with.

One day in the distant future maybe race entries will actually be allocated to runners again .....maybe.

Castpaw cant you just google the race results for previous races??

Times would depend on how you fit you at the moment, how much training you're doing, how much time till the race etc...only you can really know what kind of shape you are in!

Evening, a quick post from me as absolutely shattered from my run today and legs about to give in, I had to do my LSR today as dh is away for the weekend and although my parents would have the kids at the weekend if there were any problems it would be another big run missed. My run today was veeeeeeeeeeeery slow and painful from miles 10 - 13!

    Mon 17/8 4.71 miles 0:48:36 (10.20/mile)
    Tues 18/8 7.01 miles 1:16:21 (10:54/mile)
Weds 19/8 rest and eating a nice curry!
    Thur 20/8 13 miles 2:34:53 (a shocking 11:54/mile):o

Well done on your 13 miler more to add to the bank!!:T
  • Done 6.65 miles last night very tough indeed!!

I was nearly stopping between miles 1-2 as legs just felt very heavy!!

But improved after this distance. This is my longest since the 10k race so still must be feeling some of the effects of that!!

I hope to try and get out for a 9-10 miler at the weekend but see how things go!!
