Its the modern British disease I'm afraid.

Now if she was willing to dress up as a plump tomato and raise a few quid for charity that would be a different story...........she'd get nothing but praise!

 this thread moves so quickly!!

Did my 2nd 3m run this morning, no idea of time as my watch battery died on me whilst I was out  It did feel much slower then Tuesdays run though, my legs felt tired from the start and I felt like I really struggled as it was a head wind on the way out and that was blowing all the sand up into my face (note to self, glasses would be a good idea) but I did keep going and ran all the way no walking so I [STRIKE]am[/STRIKE] should be happy with that.

So can you lovely guys give me some advise then about my last run of the week? should I not try doing 4m this time as I struggled today, do 3.5m? or just push ahead and go for the 4m? Any help would be greatly appreciated :o x

  • I've decided to enter the Herts 10K in October, has anyone ever run this race before? It was between either that or the Cancer Research 10K, but I found out that the entire entry fee of the Herts 10K goes to charity whereas none of the Cancer Research one does! Add to that the fact that the Herts 10K entry fee is £5 cheaper anyway, and I think everyone's a winner :p

So, that gives me 7 weeks to train up for the 10K. I've found a new route to run during the week (6.5K) so will continue to do that whilst adding an extra 1K for each weekend run .

Something that's been worrying me a bit about the actual race though, are ipods generally acceptable? I know it might not be the 'done thing' for 'serious' runners, but I honestly don't think I could run 10K without my trusty ipod. I find it just as important for my running as my trainers!

I saw the news about Paula withdrawaing from the World Champs Marathon on Sunday and followed the link through to the 606 website here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/F14507923?thread=6857853&show=50 to see what peoples comments are about it. I am amazed. Apart from the fact that hardly any of these people know a single thing about running, especially not marathon running, it seems that they are just out to put her down.

"paula racliff, is a joke and disgrace to the nation."

    "bottler. same old story"

"I'm glad. She'd only choke anyway."

I wish they would get off their lazy backsides and have a go themselves. Then they might understand what the difference between a half and a full marathon entails!

Yes, the woman who is Britain's single noteworthy distance runner of recent years and the marathon world record holder is a disgrace to the nation  I'll bet she has achieved more in her life than those 3 posters combined.

uk, I can vouch for what rich says about the parkrun, it's a tough one to get right. I still haven't managed to race it well, I either start too fast or too slow (over compensating!). If you get that time, I'll be impressed.

Hey all, wow you have all been so busy. I got back from hol on fri eve, to find internet down- came back on today:j. Runs not been going well- seem to have hit mental block-and finding any excuse not to run:eek:
    mon rest
    tues 11/8 4.72 miles (09.32/mile)
    wed 12/8 30min intervals
    thurs 13/8 rest
    fri 14/8 2miles (08.55/mile)
    sat 15/8 rest
sun 16/8 12.6miles (11.21/mile)-felt really sick from about mile 7- was with my mum or would have given up
    mon 17/8 rest
    tues 18/8 6.55 miles (9.24/mile)
    wed 19/8 rest (meant to do 30mins- with 2X 7mins @8-9min/mile)
    thurs 20/8 rest

According to plan I should be doing 15miles on fri and another 30mins at weekend. Running with mum again on fri so will go but really worried about distance. Can anyone reccomend a running belt or pack? struggle over 10miles without water but hate carrying anything in my hands?

ipods are generally not allowed at races. Whether they actually make you take it off is another thing (I've seem plenty of people race with them).

How are you feeling today (legs especially)? And how does the weekly milage and "long run" distance you were planning to do compare to what you did last week (in % terms)?

That's what I was fearing. I think I might have to risk it though.

Dont let the real runners here you say that.....:rotfl:

But if i was you i would try it without just for the race... training with Mp3 players is fine but you miss out so much when you stick them in on race day.
