On principle, I never sponsor anyone for a marathon, or one off running event. My two daughters are members of St John Ambulance, their resources are drained on a regular basis by the stupidity of hitting the streets for a marathon, when you've no experience at running. But what St Johns have found worse, is the number who push themselves to run, because they've signed and committed to a fixed amount to raise for a charity. So, they run, not fit enough, or ill. Then the first aiders have to pick up the pieces.

A few years ago, at 15 years old, my daughter and 3 other volunteers, picked up a guy at the London Marathon, couldn't get him to the recovery unit as their space had been limited for more take away vans! the finish line was jammed with runners - so, not knowing what to do, they were sure the guy had had a heart attack, he had, they stretchered him and ran - yes, ran him to the hospital. No one thought the guy would live, but amazingly the hospital contacted them to say he'd pulled through! My other daughter ran through the crowd shouting for anyone who spoke spanish for him - and she found someone.

Charities making people commit to a fund raising figure is so immoral, and fuelled by marketing companies who milk their 10% of it.

Sorry, this one has made me so mad for years - even when I was a fatty fatty fat fat!

It is wrong for many reasons, Bj, but that is another prime example of the collateral damage being caused by the voracious 'charities'.

That, along with the deaths which we have discussed before.

Same distance as yesterday but rather lazier.:p

It actually felt great, a lovely flowing evening run.

I know we've mentioned this before but with the runs on Friday and today being the same distance as yesterday's race it shows a direct difference between steady training pace and race pace.

If the difference between the paces is much less than this it generally means that the training is too hard and, as a result, the racing is too slow.
1.5 - 2 minutes is about the right differential between steady pace and race pace.
