As soon as the sun popped out that was it, about 2.5miles into it i was gasping for breath to overheating. Had to cut the 9mile run to 3miles. Not been out for 2 weeks, so i think there is a mental block to the running.
Might have to step up in stages, 3miles today, 4.5miles tomorrow, 6 miles wednesday and so on.
It's probably still a bit too warm for trousers Alias. I've been wearing shorts and vest tops when running early morning and although it's a bit chilly when I set out I soon warm up.
Bad luck with the gps losing charge evab; I find I need to charge my Garmin every time I use it and the battery is really low after a LSR.
Becky - you look quite poorly in that photo. Hope you've recovered today.

Great racing in general chaps. Though you don't look right in that photo becky - good choice to stop running.
Simply - the walk might be irritating but you have to be pleased with the effort given it was part of an overall marathon training plan and there was not a marked taper.
BJ - dropping heart rate is good - means the body is adapting as rich says. If I have no pace or distance improvements over a few weeks I look to see how the HR is doing for signs of improvement there.
The Windsor half site says they are considering what to do about ipods too - apparently last year people did not hear an ambulance siren trying to get through  OK the only traffic the Windsor runners will encounter is crown estate rangers (and ambulances), so safe in terms of being run over, but people really should consider others (i.e. the ambulance). I agree - get used to not using them in a race - soak up the atmosphere and listen to the spectators!
I got out for a steady 6.2 miler today in 59:38 (9:37 pace). Legs still a bit heavy but generally compliant.
Total for the week = 6.2 miles0 -
Well done on the run Krider

Yeah I think its the sunken shoulders more than anything that gives it away - normally I am very upright runner so its weird to see myself like that - the only other time I can remember was right at the end of the Brighton Half - but I was exhausted then rather than ill
I also think you shouldnt wear ipods in races - its a bit silly really because if there's a real emergency (as happen at Blackpool) you cant hear the marshalls instructions!! Thats pretty scray about the Windsor half and an ambulance as well :eek:0 -

Missed this due to posting at the same time - yeah I'm still shorts/t-shirt even for early morning/wet runs. Though I did see a few on Saturday in jogging bottoms and hoody...
It was horribly humid in this neck of the woods on Saturday...! 0 -

That's fine where there are spectators, but the last race I did, there were people probably 0-0.2miles and 6-6.2, with nothing inbetween - just you and the road. I guess if you're used to running with music, it would be quite dull...I don't mind though, I'll always find something to occupy me...in that race I had a nice natter with some woman half way round, thought about cake and so on - it flew by
On that subject - is it poor form to natter to people in races? Does it make you seem like you're not really trying?0 -
Fair point, there were only spectators at a couple of points on my last 10k, but marshalls are around and often speak to you - even just to offer encouragement. At the 5 miler I did the marshalls were brilliant in this regard.
Probably not bad form to natter if both parties are happy about it. Generally I've been focused a lot on my own running being such a newbie at it all and trying to get it right, so can't say I've tried it.
In the Windsor one, the runners in question had to be pulled out of the way but other (non ipod wearing) runners! Presumably they were ignoring gestures or people trying to talk to them as well as a siren!0 -
I always chat to people

I've recruited a few to thread as well!!! If they dont talk back I just move on to the next one thats fine its a personal thing if you are working hard you wont be able to talk!
One of the reasons I hated London Mara so much was the lack of chat - it was soooo unfriendly and horrible (sorry to say!)0 -

Ahhh Becky sorry but you definately look poorly!
My gps is usually OK for 12 hours, but it only had 1 hour left when I asked my dh to charge it up so thats why it ran out.
I never listen to music during a race (not that I've done many) I would find it off putting and as said already you need to hear what's going on around you.0
