about 200 odd miles to far away from Yorkshire :rotfl:.
"if i say nearish Ally Pally might make it sound posh-ish"
Depends if you mean towards Finchley or towards Tottenham (for example)! The two are quite different in my mind!Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -

The stats are based on crime per 1000 residents anyway. Most of the people in Westminster every day don't actually live there.
Plus parliament is in Westminster, so that accounts for a lot of the crooks.
You can prove anything with statistics, at any rate.Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -

Are you fairly new to the big smoke then, UK? I can definitely tell the difference between various areas in London and know where I would (and wouldn't) choose to live!Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -
Running is great for weight loss. I must have shifted more than a stone since I started a year and a half ago.
rich and/or becky will probably be along soon, but I will try to second guess what they will say:
Start running very very gently for as long as you can, then walk the rest of the way at a brisk pace without starting to run again. Repeat this regularly and increase the distance you run slightly every time you go out.
(they are REALLY anti walk/run!)
Also, it's good to do loads of brisk walking before you start running, to get your leg muscles strengthened. But it sounds like you already do that!
Don't worry about pace at first. The goal is to get the distance up to about 4 miles before you worry about pace, which will come on it's own. 4 miles sounds a lot right now, but you can get to it if you keep at it.
Your legs might hurt for a day or two after your early runs. Let them rest; the rest period is what strengthens them. If your legs are sore, go for a walk instead of another run right away.
That's about it from me!
Thanks for the advice, sounds achievable, as I do a 6 mile walk every evening anyway, so I can just start to convert that to a run. Now then, I walk at an average of 7.5-8km per hour, I have a friend who jogs (she says runs!) next to me at the same speed, I always try and go quite a bit faster for running - you're saying not to? Run slowly? Are you sure?!?!0 -
Yep run as slowly as possible - its how you get further because you expend the same energy as you would running faster over a shorter distance
12 min/miles plus is fine when you are starting out - you're building fitness, it takes a while just relax and try to enjoy...
Good luck!0 -
What Becky said..when you start, you should be thinking "man, this is slow...may as well just walk"...I found it very easy to build distance at that pace...0

Thanks guys! Can't wait to get home and put my trainers on now, this is sounding achievable, far more achievable than my run -crash -burn approach! Still, I approach life a bit like that!
Will report back later!0
