Well done bj. That's quite something!

Be careful with run/walk. New runners often pick up injuries from these types of programs because muscles and tendons cool down during the walk period and are then put under strain as you set off again. This is repeated again and again. It's not so much an issue for more experienced runners, as they will be properly warmed up after a long warm up run.

If you do wish to do walk-run (no one can stop you!), I would say, do a long brisk walk (making you breathe more heavily) to warm yourself up, before you start gently running. And don't walk for more than 1 minute between runs.

If you want an alternative program, some of the geeks on here (becky? rich?) might do you one if you ask them niceley!

Oh and if anyone's about in London on Sunday...

Catherine Ndereba and possibly Stefano Baldini are running the British 10k - could be good to watch - some fast times usually :D

Do that mean these swines are going to get in the way of my Sunday Morning Run around London :eek::eek:...

That's interesting. I'm not fixed on the walk/run thing - just been pointed that way. And I certainly don't want an injury that sets me back in what I can do - running or gym training. I'm just looking to improve my aerobic fitness, and shift the last stone or so.

If the lovely becky or rich have any suggestions, then I'm all ears. And I'm sure you are the nicest geeks ever in the world of MSEers!

    Thanks all, Bev

Mode ( button ) - Training - workouts - intervals - time / rest time - select time box then select from options - then select rest time if you want - then select reps if you want - Done..

Hope that helps and is indeed what you want

OK, thanks - will give this a go too. Easy when you know which menu eh! (or have a manual, which I don't!)

Running is great for weight loss. I must have shifted more than a stone since I started a year and a half ago.

rich and/or becky will probably be along soon, but I will try to second guess what they will say:

Start running very very gently for as long as you can, then walk the rest of the way at a brisk pace without starting to run again. Repeat this regularly and increase the distance you run slightly every time you go out.
    (they are REALLY anti walk/run!)

Also, it's good to do loads of brisk walking before you start running, to get your leg muscles strengthened. But it sounds like you already do that!

Don't worry about pace at first. The goal is to get the distance up to about 4 miles before you worry about pace, which will come on it's own. 4 miles sounds a lot right now, but you can get to it if you keep at it.

Your legs might hurt for a day or two after your early runs. Let them rest; the rest period is what strengthens them. If your legs are sore, go for a walk instead of another run right away.

    That's about it from me!

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.
