Sounds like my problem, especially over the last couple of days when its been a nightmare

    Hi Bloodster,

I've had three breaks in internet availability in my first six weeks.
    1. Something to do with my PC, as all the green lights were displayed on the voyager 210 router (very strange as mrs hound's laptop was still working OK).
I tried turning off the PC a couple of times but it sorted itself out overnight and the next day I turned on the PC and everything was OK.
    2. I tried reconnecting the garden bell, as suggested by a BT engineer, without a filter across it. The speed started to steadily decline until at about 1Mb I lost the connection completely. I went through the process again after the connection came back, just to make sure it was the bell causing the trouble. Eventually I learned how to put a BT plug on the bell leads and then plugged in the bell, sharing one of the filters with a 'phone. The bell now rings without upsetting the internet connection.
    3. I lost the internet signal for no obvious reason, so I methodically unplugged everything, left the PC, via a filter, alone plugged into the BT test socket for several hours. Switched the filters round just in case. Still no luck, so I set about plugging all the phone kit back in again, testing the 'phone signal with my mobile as I rebuilt our 'phone system.
A few hours later MAAF phoned back and we repeated Step 5 of the Voyager 210 quick start instructions and bingo the broadband reconnected and the green light came back on - haven't had any trouble since, touch wood.

  • Hi Samara

I contacted Madasafish on Feb 2nd (my invoice date) to give 28 days notice of moving away and got my MAC code. I calculate that 28days including FEB 2nd takes me to March 1st and hence will not get an invoice for March - RIGHT?

    Rgds

Just as long as you have migrated away by then as far as I've understood it.

    Hi Graeme,

Gill here. Samara is away for the week, so I'll be answering any of forum posts till she gets back.

In regards to your question, as long as you migrate away from Madasafish before 1st March you will not be charged for that month as we will no longer be supplying you with broadband.

However, just obtaining a MAC code doesn't mean your contract will be terminated, you need to 'migrate' away from us. To do this, simply contact your new Internet Service Provider, supply them with the MAC and ask them to migrate your broadband service to them. This will typically take 5 working days, but I suggest you inform them as soon as possible to ensure Madasafish will not be providing your broadband in March. If you are still connected to MAAF you will still be billed. So do ensure you migrate to your new ISP before your next invoice is due (March).

    I hope this helps :o
  • Hi Gill

Many thanks - I've already passed the MAC over last week so should be migrated well before March 1st. My worry was due to Feb being a short month.

    again many Thanks

Is it possible to set up some email addresses for my family using another@madasafish.com for example.

Checked the website but could only see something about domain names.

At the moment other members of the household can receive emails in outlook but can't send due to the email address ending btinternet.com

Just trying to get round this problem and thought new madasafish email addresses would be the answer.

Yes you can get unlimited e-mail addresses.

They give you a free domain, which could be https://www.gambler.co.uk (if its available).

Then you can all have your own e-mail such as mrs@gambler.co.uk, miss@gambler.co.uk etc.

You can use outlook and/or webmail, and access your mail from any computer anywhere.

Thanks Quentin, but would I be able to send mail from these addresses using outlook and madasafish smtp?

    Yes.

You can set any amount of addresses up on Outlook (or similar e-mail clients like Outlook Express or Incredimail etc), and send and receive mail using madasafish.

The other advantage of doing it this way is that should you decide to leave MAAF at some time in the future, you can take your domain with you and get it hosted elsewhere (though normally a small fee would be involved).

As an alternative to using a MAAF account you might find 1 & 1 useful.

Your own domain costs £2.34 per year, then they give you 5 separate addresses which you can again use with any amount of addresses (150), and write and receive via both webmail and Outlook for just 81p a month.
