    Hi Matt,

I've not had enough time in my life for a major all day session to find a pattern to the problem.

But at quiet times - early hours of the morning - your system seems more reliable.
I have installed Firefox 3.0.3. It did not like Mc Afee "Site Advisor", but everything else seemed normal at my end. So in theory I now have a clean system with up to date Windows XP technology.
My latest results (the "long" sessions were not in reality long sessions, I just left the PC switched on hybernating, against my normal practice) do not suggest that the problem has gone away.
One other feature of how I work is to have two sessions of Firefox fired up at the same time. One is on Google, to which I can refer whenever I need to double check something. The other is where I am active, preparing a web mail reply to friends and associates (or poking about on MSE etc.;) )
I can have trouble on the active Firefox session, for example clicking links that don't work, only to switch to the dormant Google search and be able to click some links that work BUT within a matter of a minute or two that session will collapse too.

I don't always work this way - sometimes I'm simply doing a "quick" Email check.

Part of my problem is that we don't know who and what is really supplying our service. (A bit like those customers who used to think that "Waitrose" did internet, (Like Tesco does banking)).

At the back of my mind there is a real worry. Are your attempts, to integrate MAAF into the rest of your operation, creating unannounced glitches?

    http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/mso.php

From tomorrow lunchtime, for the rest of this week, or until you let me know you have fixed the problem, while I will be be away,
I will leave the router ONLY plugged into the master socket, (thinks will my incoming calls go through to 1581?)

The PM with my id and mobile number will be on its way to you soon.

    Harry.

    Latest results

    00:05 - 0035 phut
    01:40 - 02:25 phut
    02:30 - 04:30 I turned off!!!

    16:40 - 17:00 phut
    17:05 - 17:40 phut
    18:10 - ????? phut (but I was asleep in the armchair:D)

    17:02 - 17:30 phut
17:25 - 01:55 still up!! Turned off; .but this is not a triumph of hope over experience.

My wife is complaining about having only one phone, because we have been plugged into the master socket continuously for two weeks.

    About a week ago, I thought you had sorted it, as the line stayed up nearly all day;
    however it seemed very slow.

When I checked, I thought I was back on dial-up.

Any fool can offer a half reasonable reliability at modem speeds.

So I decided to give it a chance to start again at the bottom and let the speed pick up again.

A week later the speed is on its way back down again (and the line is dropping out of the broadband signal again).

Here are some representative readings (Note the "good" ones were taken with the extension wiring connected).

    25/05/07 10:11 4445.12 Kbps 371.71 Kbps 80.189.224.12 Home DSL
    03/07/07 06:55 4145.23 Kbps 371.89 Kbps 80.189.72.78 Home DSL
    29/11/07 14:23 3658.73 Kbps 371.78 Kbps 91.125.15.128 Home DSL
    22/06/08 22:23 4124.99 Kbps 371.81 Kbps 91.125.79.241 Home DSL
    17/10/08 16:02 3999.30 Kbps 372.18 Kbps 91.125.100.181 Home DSL
    06/11/08 17:36 666.71 Kbps 373.80 Kbps 91.125.204.138 Home DSL
    08/11/08 22:39 2662.61 Kbps 365.82 Kbps 91.125.204.138 Home DSL
    12/11/08 15:53 1808.14 Kbps 371.79 Kbps 91.125.208.218 Home DSL

    What do you propose?

    Harry.

    Update:

Ah this is looking better, we heading back to getting on trend, the speed graph is looking like some crazy scatter diagram.

    14/11/08 02:17 3616.01 Kbps 372.01 Kbps 91.125.166.16 Home DSL

I wonder if there is some sort of contention on my line during the day time (or within the MAAF/Plusnet system?)
I don't think I want to turn into a permanent insomniac.
  • Hi, I'm a Mad as a Fish customer and referred my parents but the referal is not showing up on my account yet. How long should this take? Their internet is now up and running.
And if, you know, your history...

They say you have to wait "at least" 90 days from the date the referral's broadband starts to get the referral applied to your account. Once applied, they have 21 days to pay you (If your referral account gets closed before they have issued the cheque, then you lose it!)

I referred my daughter about 3 months ago and the payment was made just a month after her "live" date. So well within the 90 days but maybe I was lucky?
The payment went directly into the bank account from which the Direct Debit payment is taken, not by cheque. In fact they made an error only paying £10. I sent an e-mail to CS advising the error and received another £10 a couple of days later preceded by a large apology!
Oh yes, she is more than happy with their service, as I am.

You got lucky through their inefficiency. Looks like they made 2 "errors"!

They pay £10 for telephone referrals. And with phone referrals, then they do pay these after just 28 days.

It looks like they wrongly marked your account as supplying a "Talk" referral, which explains the payment of just £10 after a month.

Irrespective of how they make the payment, (cheque or BACS), if your referral cancels before the payment is actually made, then you don't get it.

The correct qualifying period for broadband referrals is at least 90 days.
My Referrals payments will not be applied to your account until at least 90 days (for Broadband) or 28 days (for Talk) following the commencement of the referred customer's service

Not a good start - why not simply rebrand us as Plusnet instead of upsetting the phishing guard ?

No, you're wrong. All clearly marked broadband in my account and on the payments. "Talk" nowhere to be seen. Excuse me for posting something positive about MAAF. I am entitled to do that! Try it occasionally, it might remove that exceedingly large chip.

It was only a suggestion to explain the circs.

You would agree the "correct" answer is the one I gave, and your experience was exceptional.

I posted nothing negative, just answered the original question according to the conditions of the offer!
