  • Hi South_Paw,

I've put your question through to tech support and they seem to think that you're currently provisioned on a 512Kbps service and not a 2Mb service.

When on a fixed rate service a low attenuation and high noise margin is indicative of a good quality line and I would feel pretty confident that on a "speeds up to 8Mb" service you would do quite well.

    Kind regards,
    Samara

    Hi Samara.

We have TWO accounts with Madasafish which are both well over 12 months old. A lot has happened in the world of Broadband since we joined, and while we have been pleased with the service we have received from Madasafish, we've finally got around to seriously looking at other suppliers, particularly Talk Talk which are cheaper than the 2 x £17.99 we are paying at present with MAAF.

Are you able to offer a better deal for both our accounts than the one we are on at the moment, which feels more like an outdated legacy tariff ?

If not, it's very likely we will have to move both accounts as at their current price they no longer represent good value.

    Hi Samara,

As you know my contract is due to expire. I have been seeking a better deal as you have the might of BT behind you - there are no excuses now. Are you now able to offer a comparable deal to Talk Talk?
    Thanks

To update my previous post...the switchover on my broadband service was today.

Madasfish disconnected me just after midnight today - 2 weeks before the end of my 12 months and ahead of the date I had given to terminate the service. My final bill was hiked up by £6 to cover extra data usage - so £24 to cover just over 2 weeks. This seems odd, as I'd only been paying £17.99 a month up until then, my usage had not changed - don't download music or films nor play games. Net Meter shows my usage is nowhere near the limits set by Madasfish  and I've not had any records of my data usage from Madasfish - it's hard to see how this amount was arrived at. Keep an eye on your usage, as it seems a 5GB allowance may not be sufficient for normal internet browsing .

Well, at least this time I didn't have to call the premium rate phone number to tell Madasfish to disconnect! BT, who now own Madasafish, did this to me last year - they failed to disconnect my service even after switching over and it took the best part of an hour on the phone speaking to a call centre operative, his floor supervisor and then being re-routed back to the UK to get a representative to agree that I shouldn't be charged another £30 for an extra month's service that they weren't providing!

Anyway, O2 re-connected me at 0930h and sent a text to confirm. I received their free wireless router yesterday, but I'm not using it. I connected via my existing router and was able to call a freephone number within the UK to get technical support to get the right settings.

O2 is working well and is operating at nearly 3 times the speed of Madasafish despite both offering the same service on paper - up to 8Mbps. I currently get over 13Mbps download speeds on O2 compared to Madasafish at around 5Mbps at its fastest!

O2's service is uncapped unlike Madasafish.
It costs less - £12.50 per month instead of £17.99 a month at Madasafish.
Quidco are paying £40 cashback for new customer sign-ups.

...and no privileged PMs and trading secret handshakes for the sake of getting a decent working broadband service ;)

We keep asking about the long trumpeted new deals "coming along".

The last response we got when Tabath last month asked about the progress of these deals was:
    Hi Tabath,

We're aiming to have someone on our website by Wednesday of next week.

("someone" should have read "something" I guess?)

The Wednesday referred to was yesterday (6/2/08), but the website is unchanged.

Bearing in mind Martin's urgent money saving recommendation to us for o2s unlimited broadband at £12.50 (or £7.50 for o2 contract mobile customers), this is of interest to all current MAAF customers - as it may be better to bail out now, as cancellation charges could be less than the cost of remaining and paying what are now way out of line monthly charges for the capped downloads plus excess charges for going over the cap limit.
  • Hi Quentin,

The new deal for Madasafish MAX Broadband 5GB went live on Tuesday. You can find out about it here: www.madasafish.com/broadband. Perhaps you were looking at a cached copy of the site?

    Kind regards,

  • Hi EricPode,

I'd certainly like to see what I can do for you - could you please PM me the Madasafish username's for both of your accounts?

As Talk Talk has been mentioned a few times in this thread, I would like to point out that it's not a like for like service. No two broadband services are the same. We deliver the service in a different way to Talk Talk (LLU vs. BT Wholesale network) and our customer ratings compared to Talk Talk are completely different.

    Kind regards,
    Samara

  • Hi Point3,

If you would like for me to investigate that final bill with the usage charge (if you don't think it's right) - I'd be more than happy to do so. Could you please PM me your Madasafish username.

I'm pleased that you're enjoying your new service.

    Kind regards,

No - saw it is £15/month now (after first 6 months at £10).

    But still only 5gb allowance.

We were hoping for something a little more generous, together with an increase in the allowances to compete with Martin's recommendations.
